Mentor program?

What is this mentor program? Two days ago I received something in the mail called the mentor program. It says that applications are due on May 15th and I don't even know what this is. Is it a mandatory thing at Michigan or is it just if you want to do it or is it if you apply you might get in? Can someone please explain this whole program to me.

Peer Mentorship is what I think you are talking about. I don´t know anything about it, but I do know people who are in it. My general uninformed impression is that it is good to soften the blow of the transition from HS to college. It isn´t mandatory, but if it sounds like something you´d like to do, just go on the umich website and look it up.

KB

Do you think it is worth it? I applied to MRC and I am hoping to be in UROP. If I am going to be involved in other 'get to know UofM' programs, is the mentor program really worth the time?

Same question here.

"About Mentorship
The mission of the University Mentorship Program is to provide an opportunity for new students to connect with Mentors who are knowledgeable about the University of Michiga in order to ease the transition from high school to college.

Each Mentorship group has a three-tiered structure: one F/S mentor, one Peer mentor, and four first-year students (Mentees) who are grouped according to their academic and extra-curricular interests. Throughout the fall semester Mentorship groups participate in a variety of activities, both academic and social, that work towards supporting and encouraging each first-year student.
The University Mentorship Program is one of the many Michigan Learning Communities available to students on campus. These programs help to make our large University easier to navigate."

Sign up as early as you can as the program may be full if you wait till July or August.

If you get into UROP, you may not find this program to be beneficial. If you're not accepted, you may want to do it.

it was alright...like, it's a guarantee that you won't be 100% lonely, but soon, everyone moves on, and i only talk to one of my mentorship friends now.
