Mercer

Yeah, I'm in Mercer. I've heard it's basically the worst. How afraid do I need to be?

I should note that I'm in a room that is meant for a disabled resident, so does that mean it's larger/awesomer in any way?

i’m in mercer too! i was shocked since i turned in my application early…i’m on the fourth floor and i have a single. what about you? and hopefully your room will be roomy.

Same for us! Applied on the first day. It wasn’t one of our choices. What do you know about Mercer? Any info would be helpful. Good or bad.

I applied pretty early as well…I had it as a 3rd or 4th choice for some stupid reason; I didn’t know at the time that Mercer was supposed to be bad. I thought I would pretty much be guaranteed either Terry or Lander, so I didn’t pay too much attention to the other choices.

Anyways, about Mercer: It’s called the “dungeon.” The rooms are pretty cramped and it’s isolated from everyone…it’s definitely not the social dorm. On the other hand, I guess it’s quieter and thus better for studying. There’s no dining options within the hall itself; you have to go over to Terry and use the 1101 Cafe there. You can get some more information about amenities at the official Mercer Hall info page: [UW Housing and Food Services](<a href=“Housing & Food Services - UW HFS”>Housing & Food Services - UW HFS) There are also some floor plans and a gallery.

It’s definitely at the bottom of the pack in terms of preference; it’s even going to be demolished in 2011 and rebuilt because it’s so bad. I think the main problems are just that rooms are small and the hall is very isolated. Personally, I’ll be in a double, which is okay, but I think a triple would be a nightmare. I think the dorm will be fine overall, but it’s definitely not the best option. Besides, experiences like this build character! The gallery doesn’t seem that bad, but perhaps that’s an illusion. I’ll find out on Sept 25 (I’m moving in from 9-10:30).

By the way, anyone else in Mercer this year should join the Facebook group. Just search for “Mercer Hall 09-10” to find it.

The good thing is, you guys have your own sand volleyball court and a bonfire pit. :D

The bonfire pit sounds interesting. However, I’m still scared. :P
