Meredith College

Can anyone comment on Meredith College? Looking for a safety that is not in the country (Raleigh meets that criteria) with strong academics esp. sciences, and also has a theater/music program. Thanks.

I asked about it, too, and these were the responses I received:

I lived at Meredith College over the summer for the NC Governor's School and thoroughly enjoyed the campus. Meredith has a very pretty campus and their math/science building is an extremely modern facility that is gorgeous. I lived in a triple dorm and it was very spacious, although some of the suites (doubles) were a little tiny. If your daughter does end up attending, I would recommend a triple as the rooms are gigantic! Apologies that I can't comment on the academics, though!

Thank you both. Website is very nice and for a safety (although the price over the rest of her choices certainly makes it worthy of serious consideration!!). I guess we'd have to look closely at the level of academics. Thanks for the room info, very helpful to have an inside scoop! Toledo, I take it your D went elsewhere??

D is only a junior and she's still talking about Meredith. In 8th grade, she took a career class which included numerous surveys and that was the college that came up. Of course we'd never heard of it. I'm trying to steer her towards schools that are known for special services, as she has an IEP.

Several very strong women went there and did well from there including Silda Spitzer. It is considered a strong school.

Its a great little school and enjoys a wonderful reputation in NC and most of the South. But its not well known. If its what you want, its a great fit for you academically and socially, then go for it! Being where you will be happiest and thrive the best is the MOST important factor in choosing a college. Trust me on that point.

Pay NO ATTENTION to college rankings. Listen to your heart.

Good luck.

Thanks, nocousin. We agree completely that you don't go on name alone. This is our 2nd time around the college scene. It does seem like a wonderful school. D has a 3.8 UW GPa, many EC's/leadership and I think she'll get in. Raleigh has a lot to offer, too. She likes what she has seen online a lot.
