Apparently, the plan to merger UMDNJ and Rutgers and reshuffle Rowan University is going to cost around $40 million. A lot of people that I know keep saying that tuition at Rutgers this is year is increasing by $5K because of what they saw on their award letter even though my cost of attendance on my award letter is actually less than last year's, so that's not making any sense. Should I be concerned or are those just rumors I've been hearing?

It appears that Rutgers-NB got the short-end in the merger plan. The highly desired med school is being given to RU-Newark as well as a couple units now under RU-NB rlated to medical. All medical will be under a new group headquartered in Newark. So basically the main campus got the shaft. The med school in NB wimm still not be part of RU-NB. Terrible.

i read somewhere that tuition increase can be only a max of 4%. Btw, the estimated cost is not really what you have to pay, you will get your term bill next month. I think they added personal costs included into the estimated cost from what i hear

barrons, can you give me the link where I can read about the new details of the merger? The last time I checked, UMDNJ was merging with RU-NB. If this is not the case, however, I would be furious to pay extra due to its consquential tuition raise.

Here’s a new article from Nj.com about this whole merger plan. At least there’s no more merger between Rutgers-Camden and Rowan, which would have costed hundreds of millions of dollars to wastefully implement.

“Under the plan, Rutgers would take over most pieces of UMDNJ, including its medical schools in Newark and New Brunswick-Piscataway. University Hospital, UMDNJ’s teaching institution in Newark, would become its own entity and partner with a private hospital chain to run operations.
In South Jersey, UMDNJ’s School of Osteopathic Medicine will be turned over to Rowan, which will also enter into a quasi-merger with Rutgers-Camden to offer joint programs.”
