Are students who decide to major in Theater at Fordham eligible for all of the freshman merit (academic) scholarships offered by the University? If you are a Theater major and have received merit aid (not need based aid), could you post your stats and the amount of aid that you received? It would help others to see what types/amounts of merit aid are available to Theater majors. Also, what types/amounts of talents scholarships are available and awarded to Theater students? Thanks!

I don’t think there are a lot of Theatre majors/parents posting on this forum or in the Theatre forums for that matter…at least there haven’t been since I’ve been on CC…so you are unlikely to get a lot of answers.

Yes, theatre students are eligible for merit awards. They are not talent scholarships but talent might possibly be taken into account for consideration of some of the awards. All applications are automatically reviewed for merit awards and Theatre students are as eligible as any other applicant.
We are full pay and my S received a Tuition award and Loyola Scholarship. I am not inclined at this time to publicly post the amount of his awards except to say that it was more than half tuition but far less than full. His stats which I have posted before included 9 AP’s, 93.58 UW GPA/97.44 W GPA, 1960 SAT’s, 680 each on two SAT II’s, as well as an impressive performance resume and other interesting credits.

If you have any other questions perhaps about why my S chose Fordham Theatre over the other programs he was accepted into…and he made his decision BEFORE we found out about the $$…please don’t hesitate to ask! :)

Oh and btw, you cannot just decide to major in Theatre. You must audition or interview depending on which track you are interested in and this is part of the application process. It is quite competitive but if you are not accepted into the Theatre major you can still be accepted to Fordham and even minor in Theatre.

sandkmom: Thanks for the info on the scholarships. Would you happen to know if Fordham has a presence at the Chicago Unifieds or do they just audition on campus? I know that they’re not on the Unified list, but I also know that many schools audition in Chicago that same weekend.

This year they auditioned on campus, in Chicago and in San Francisco but I don’t know if they were specifically at Unifieds or during that weekend.

They haven’t updated the website yet with next year’s dates and they probably won’t until the end of the summer going off of last year, but do read through the website [Admission, Auditions & Interviews](http://www.fordham.edu/academics/programs_at_fordham_/theatre_department/prospective_students/admission_auditions_/index.asp) for info on auditions and audition requirements. I do recall that scheduling opened up Sept 1st and it was not necessary to have submitted an application prior to scheduling.
