I have been accepted to a couple schools. One offered me merit aid while the other said I qualified for a stafford loan. My question is, do I have a chance of getting merit aid further down the road at a school when I wasn't notified of any in my acceptance letter or since I wasn't notified of merit aid, will I most likely not receive any? Thanks for your help CC!

A couple of the schools my daughter applied to give merit away later in the Spring, some even invite you to send in an essay or attend a weekend competition. It doesn’t always come through with the acceptance letter.

But we were able to find that out on the various school’s websites. You can also look on the individual forums here on College Confidential.

Alright, thanks!

Does the “other” school give merit scholarships? If so, are your test scores high for the school?

Yes the other school gives merit aid. My ACT is basically the average of the incoming class’ from last year and my GPA and rank were well above average

If your ACT is “average” for the school, then it’s less likely that you’d get merit from that school. Merit is often given to those whose test scores are within the top 25% of the school.
