Merit Aid and Scholars

Does anyone know if merit scholarships are ever offered for OOS students who are admitted into the scholars program?

Thanks.

Bump for a good question. I am curious about this as well

The only merit award that has restrictions is the B/K (Honors College only). All other awards are open to all students, IS or OOS.
There are also awards offered from the individual colleges and departments.

Thank you for the helpful info plumazul. Does the University/ do the colleges and departments require separate applications for merit aid, or am I already under consideration for it simply from my priority application?

In a word, yes. I am OOS, my freshman is in scholars program, and got a Presidential Scholarship. You are automatically considered for merit scholars by virtue of priority application.

The only scholarship you are not eligible for is the Banneker/Key which only invites a small amount of select students in the Honors College to interview.

Congratulations on your admission!!! :)

My D has been accepted honors college, hoping for BK when would we hear about merit $if not invited for BK? We are OOS.

Can you get the presidential scholarship if your in honors but didn’t qualify for the B/K scholarship?
how much is the presidential scholarship?

Yes, I agree w/ Maryversity…D2 was same situation…OOS, Scholars, Presidential scholarship. If you don’t get an invite for B/K, you’ll hear about merit at the same time as everyone else…don’t remember when it is. Kbronx, you are right, you are automatically considered for merit aid with your priority application. Presidential scholarship varies in amounts. Check out the UMD scholarships on their website.

Thanks for the information. When do students hear about merit scholarships?

Last year’s snail mail letter was dated Feb. 21st.
