Merit aid estimator

So, we had filled out the on-line estimator for merit aid, thinking it was like NPC and would spit out a number immediately. I was a little surprised when I realized it was personal, to the specific student and would take several weeks. My kid has a strong gpa but not good test scores, and I thought it would not bode well for him

Well, it was worth waiting for – my son got a letter today he is estimated to receive $22,000 in merit aid (a year). Certainly started off his weekend right. We are looking mostly at matches and safeties because we need merit aid to close the gap between EFC and what we have available. Getting that kind of “love” certainly piqued my son’s interest in Wooster! Of course, it is an estimate, but knowing in advance that he could be eligible for that kind of award made him excited about the school and sure will help his parents sleep at night. A neat tool, thank you Wooster!

Be careful. If the college says you have a “need” of $40k for a 65k COA, that $22k can mean that your need, or financial aid is reduced by $22k bc you now have that $. Does Wooster “stack” merit aid and FA on top of instead of in place of?

Thx – we are not applying for financial aid bc we know we are not eligible – our EFC is full pay. This was not an estimator using our financials – it was only asking for kid’s curriculum, gpa, rank, tests, activities, leadership etc – his resume, not our financials.

Then…yay!!

That is great. We used this for our son a few years ago and the estimator worked perfectly. There was a chance later in the process to apply for an additional scholarship which he also received. You should look at that too, if your child ends up attending. My son did not attend but it was so nice to have the merit offer.
