I have received a reward letter saying that I have received the President's award scholarship worth $20,000 over 4 years and the Lincoln Hall scholarship also worth $20,000 over the course of 4 years. I am wondering is this all the scholarship money they UIUC will be offering me, is it possible that more scholarships will be sent out later on? I am confused because I know that the school says all of the different scholarships are sent out at different times so I think that might mean that I might receive other scholarships from the school as well but I'm not sure, any clarification would be great. Also, does the school itself offer financial aid awards, or does that only come from the government?

I was awarded some money too, but I also have similar concerns. Just this afternoon I was on U of I’s website, searching for more scholarships. Under the College of Media’s scholarships it said that most of the scholarships would be awarded in mid-March. I hope this helps, but I’m sure some other people might have more insight than me! Good luck!

As far as I can tell from going through the website, you are correct. Each college seems to have its own notification dates.

so far, i just know that i’ve been offered the AHS scholar award and had some questions about it. It says that the deadline to accept the scholarship is march 26th which is before i hear back from 9 other schools would it be ok if i accepted the offer and potentially withdrew if accepted to a school i like better? (which has a 50/50 chance of happening)

Are they allowed to required that kind of commitment???

Honestly, if I were you, as long as there is nothing legally binding (no contract or anything you have to sign) I would ‘accept’ by the deadline and reject it later if necessary.

well it says to reply by that day so excess money can be distributed among others.

and ok! that’s what i was thinking but didn’t know if i could or not. i’ll double check with my counselor monday and hopefully go through with it. thank you!

Yes, go ahead and accept the scholarship before the deadline. It does not commit you to UIUC, it only means you want the scholarship if you attend. Only people who should reject a scholarship are those who are certain they won’t attend. DD ‘accepted’ merit awards from 3 different schools.

As far as accepting admission you can do that on or before May 1 and if you do so, you can withdraw your acceptance at any time (but lose $150 fee required with acceptance of admission). You do not need to accept admission to get, or send any acceptance of, a scholarship. Time of notification of merit scholarships vary and even the time for notification of the same scholarships can vary from year to year. They attempt to get all of those merit based scholarship notices out by no later than about mid-March. For OP, you have been notified of university awards. You still have a chance for specific awards of the college to which you applied (the one that has your major). As to need based financial aid, for which any notice will likely come later, it is the university not the government that decides the amount and kind of aid and it uses as information for that purpose FAFSA and the known amounts that are guaranteed and recoverable from the government.
