I really can't tell you what to expect. I do know that it helps to get your application in early, which you did. My son, now attending IU, applied later and did not get much aid at all. IU does not guarantee to meet need, and they fell several thousand short of meeting our need. (Being out of state does not help either.) My son mainly got loans and work study. But, as I said, he applied later, so you may do better, having applied early.

Good luck! My son is enjoying his classes at IU, although he does not like the dorm atmosphere much--way too much partying for him. and that is in the Honors Dorm...

i thought they sorta liked oos students? am i considered a minority for IUB? btw if its ok can i ask when your son applied and what ur efc was and how much of it did they meet? thanks for answering

I'm not sure if they like oos students, but there appear to be more scholarships available for in state. (and of course, tuition is lower for in state) You may very well be considered a minority, so that may help, too. I can't remember exactly when he applied--he was applying several places and they all run together in my mind. However, I think it was in December. (although it may have been sooner, since he had to get his music audition tape in pretty early, I seem to recall...) He also made the mistake of not applying for Honors College scholarships, since he at first did not think he would be interested in the Honors College.

Our EFC was around $15,000. He received about $4100 in loans and $1500 work study (He declined the work study, as he felt he couldn't handle it freshman year.) Estimated cost of attendance was about $29,000, so that left the offer about $8400 short of meeting need. He was able, later, to get $4000 a year from the music school, which helped.

o ic, ya i got my official packet stuff today and luckily i got the IU faculty awards which offered me $24,000, $6000 per year and i tink that will really help. It said i didnt have to apply for it and that i got it automatically, do you know if IUB sends additional app.'s for other scholarhips later on in the mail or is the scholarship(s) i recieve in my acceptance packet all that i qualify for? i know that if i raise my sat I, gpa or class rank i could get more money.

The application for Honors College scholarships comes separately, I believe. Financial aid such as loans and work study would also come later, after the FAFSA is filed.

haha yes, btw thanks for answering my questions it was helpful hopefuly i will get decent financial aid and i will be able to attend in fall cuz i REALLY want to go, the only thing getting in my way is money :)
