Merit Aid for "B" Students?

Although I am not a "B" student, my academic stats are not as impressive as many other members on the College Confidential Website, which could (if you will) put me in the "B" range.

We have a 4.5 scale at my private, very competitive high school, and I currently have around a 4.4 cumulative gpa. I am a junior, and I am involved in numerous extracurricular.

My ACT score is a 26, and my SAT is a 1320 - or 1970 (CR 630 Math 690, Writing 650).

I am an Ohio Resident, and prestige is not what I am completely looking for. I have no interest in attending any schools that offer need-based only (Our EFC is ridiculously high).

I am just looking for schools that (perhaps with slightly higher standardized test scores) could offer me full tuition, room and board - just full tuition, or at least decent merit aid.

I want to major in Secondary Education along with Economics/Advertising/Public Relations/Marketing (the second "double" major is still a toss up at this point), and I eventually want to attend Law School part-time after graduating from my undergrad school (and I do want to be broke!)

Some schools currently on my short-list are:
Cleveland State University
Ohio Wesleyan University
St. Louis University
Marquette University
DePauw University

Any other schools or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Some state universities give out full-tuition scholarships to all National Merit Finalists that attend - what was your PSAT score? Maybe you'll qualify.

I don't know about full tuition, but I will tell you that my daughter who is B student at a large very competitive hs has rec'd several merit aid offers of about 1/2 tuition. she has a 32 on her ACT. She rec'd awards in that range at both Marquette and DePauw.

I meant to say in the original thread that I do NOT want to be broke - pretty big word messup.

And thanks for the first two replies. Any more help is appreciated.

Check the Parents' Forum here on CC as there's a long thread about merit aid for "mediocre" students ("mediocre" being by CC's astronomically high standards).

Try Wooster College.

Anyone else have any ideas?

You may not get a full scholarship, but what is wrong with Ohio State or Ohio University?

I saw on another thread that if you google the terms meit aid and your stats range you can get a lot of hits for schools with such offers. I tried it and it definitely came up with some ideas. Good luck!

Your ACT is low as compared to your SAT. A 1320 SAT equates to the starting score for an ACT score of 30. There are colleges and universities that may grant you up to full tuition, but unlikely that you could also get room and board. There are at least two schools giving tuition for secondary school majors. Some honors programs give merit money for as low as a 25 ACT. I will not recommend them by name for two reasons-neither of which should cause you any concern. Your strengths are your GPA and intended goal of teaching in high school. Lots of merit aid available, especially if you want to teach math or science or, of course, Arabic. Retake your ACTs because no school will ever see an ACT score unless you specify that particular test score be sent.
