Merit aid for international transfer

Hi ...i've posted about this a while ago but i cant find the trade anymore...

I just finished my first semester at a New Zealand University and am aiming to transfer to a US college/University. The problem is i will need financial aid. The most i can pay for my education is $12000 a year. I applied to quite a number of schools (i was applying for near full aid at very selective schools, HYP, williams...etc) but didnt end up being accepted anywhere. Now i'm not that ambitious anymore, i'd be happy to go to any decent school in the US...

I'm searching for schools that give merit aid to international transfers. Is there any schools that give guaranteed merit scholarships to students based on Academic results? I really hope someone could help me...

My grades for my first semester are 3 A+s and an A-

There are very few schools that give aid to international transfers.
Besides HYP and the like that give need-based aid, there are only very few less selective LACs (e.g. Columbia College, SC) that give out merit-based aid. What about public universities with out-of-state tuition < $5,000? I think Brigham Young University in Utah also gives scholarships to transfer students.

I think barium is right, scholarships/aid are doubly hard to get for transfers. So it's not a bad idea to be prepared to pay full tuition and look at colleges with low tuition fees.

Another thing you can do is finish 2 years at your current university and then try to transfer, since the total costs will be less that way and you might be able to cover some of it using part-time jobs etc. Someone I know did that and is now at UT Austin, where he seems to be doing fine without winning any scholarships.

Coorect me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Columbia not only give need-based aid?

...which is why I specified Columbia College, SC. There are more Columbia Colleges than the Ivy League one.
