Merit Aid for Out of State Students for Indiana University Bloomington

My D is interested in attending Indiana U --Bloomington but as an out of state student its unaffordable without any merit aid. For those students who received merit aid in recent years, can you please indicate what is the range of merit aid (scholarship) offered and what was the SAT/ACT and GPA range/criteria that was eligible? .

IU has tightened up on OOS merit, so I am not sure if past stories will help much.

IU used to have assured merit, now it is competitive and unknown as to how much a student would get.

From the below, I would guess that those that get the $11k per year award would have top test scores. Since the upper quartile of students at IU have an ACT 31+, it would seem that an estimate could come from that…with those who have ACT 31 getting less merit, and those with an ACT 34+ getting the larger awards. But, it doesnt look like anything is assured.

What are your D’s stats? (M+CR SAT, or ACT composite) and GPA

The Dean’s Scholarship is awarded to Out of State students of the highest academic quality. Academic performance is assessed through information provided in the IU Admissions application, including official testing and high school transcript information. Only test scores received directly from the testing agency will be considered for scholarship and admission processes.
Submit a completed Admissions application by November 1, 2014.
Award amounts range from $1,000 to $11,000 per year.
Renewable for four years
Notification of this award is sent separately from the admissions notification packet.
Students who meet the November 1 deadline may submit updated SAT or ACT scores until January 15, 2015 for additional scholarship consideration.
International students and students applying for the Jacobs School of Music are not eligible for the IU Achievement Scholarships.

Thanks, they probably have so many applicants that can afford to pay their OOS tuition that they don’t need to have assured merit with specific criteria posted, as several other schools do. Despite my D’s high gpa and solid test scores–between 2000 and 2100 on SAT, they would not be considered “the top” range, thus getting a $11K award, which would be nice, may not be realistic.

What is her M+CR score from ONE sitting? Unless her W score is lowish for her total, I am guessing that her single-sitting M+CR is about a 1380?

I think it would be a safe guess that to get the $11k, the M+CR would need to be a 1480+

How much do you want YOUR cost to be?

I was recently accepted to Indiana and got the Dean’s Scholarship. I am getting 10k per academic year. My superscored SAT was 2250 (I took it 3 times), My ACT was a 33, and my GPA by the end of junior year was 4.2 Weighted. I was in the top 10% of my grade in rankings. But i also know that my friend who had a 2150 SAT, 4.0GPA, and 29 ACT got 8K per year.

I don’t think the merit is based on a super-score.

$11k per year seems to be a common max award for IU. Must need the equivalent of an ACT 34+ (not superscored, to get that) Years ago, it was around $16k per year.

Wow…only $8k per year for a 2150. Wonder what the M+CR was.

My friends daughter got the 11k this year with a ACT 32 and a 4.4 weighted GPA.

^^^
I wonder if she’s from a state that doesn’t send many to IU? Or if that award is a combo of univ award plus a dept award for her major?

Nope. Lives in Ohio. I am not sure if it’s a combination but her mom told me ( we are very close and have kids that have been friends since birth) that she got 11k. Which, with the high tuition isn’t enough.

This doesn’t really relate, but IU IS AMAZING. I plan to apply to some competitive schools, but would have no problem going to IU, my state school. I lived in Bloomington for 4 yrs, and the town is also really awesome. It has a really college town feel and in the summer ifs practically deserted without all the IU students. It seems like the whole town is based around IU (the hospital is the university medical center) and IU spans the whole town. It’s really urban and the frat/sorority houses are gorgeous as well. The campus is absolutely gorgeous!!

I was recently given the Dean’s Scholarship for 11k per year. My ACT score is a 30 and my GPA is a 4.28. Live in MD.
