Admitted back in Dec. with 7k/yr merit. Finally got the rest of their offer but the merit scholarship wasn’t even mentioned… The letter did state, however, that the aid listed superseded any previous offers. Even with merit, I didn’t get enough aid to consider going, so pursuing the matter with the college is useless. However, I’m just wondering if this is a common bait-and-switch? Or likely a mistake? I’ve searched but couldn’t find anything and haven’t heard of it happening. It seems the epitome of crass manipulation if indeed it’s a bait-and-switch.
Often the merit award comes from the admissions office while the award letter comes from FA. If you got a large FA offer, it might replace some of the merit aid but it sounds like that wasn’t the case. I’d call and ask them, even if you don’t think you’ll go there.
I doubt that you’ve lost your merit award. Your merit award came from Admissions but you probably need to formally accept it thru portal.
Your FA award came from the FA office. Get your scholarship letter, call Admissions/Scholarships office to verify.
It was likely offered by Admissions.
Since it’s unaffordable anyway, decline them, and say “good bye confusing college that can’t agree on my award”
Hah, yes definitely. They are merging w/another college now so I assume things there are . . organizationally (and Organizationally) sketchy. Even if I could afford it, not sure I’d want to risk the upheaval.
Did you school ask for a copy of your grades for the first semester? If yes, how were they? Sis your GPA go up or down?
Didn’t ask, though it did go down . . . from 3.94 to 3.9.
