Merit aid offers?

Has anybody heard yet? I think they're sent out in early March, and we're keeping our fingers crossed.

hello! I called Monday to make sure the Financial Aid office had recieved FAFSA and CSS and they said that they expected everything to start to mail out at the end of this week, so we should be hearing soon. Good luck to all!

yes, my daughter receive her letter today and was awarded an Ursinus scholar merit award of $ 20,000 per year. Also, since both myself and my wife are alumni, she would get an additional $ 2500. Not # 1 on her list. Still waiting for Dartmouth, Cornell, W & M, UVA,Boston College, Lehigh. $$$$$$$$$$$ will be consideration, probably will not get Merit $$$ from most of the above, other than Lehigh.
she is also accepted at TCNJ with Max merit $$$ of $ 6500/ yr bringing total cost down to about $ 16,000 per yr vs. Ursinus @ about $ 25,000.

what do you think?

^^^
Congratulations to your D on receiving such fine awards, and good luck on the pending decisions.

I'd probably take Ursinus at $25K.

D got her letter today...20k per year. GPA to keep it is a very reasonable 2.67 (weird number...what's with that?) She has other offers of 15k/yr but higher GPA requirements. So, she's overjoyed. Dad and I are pretty happy as well - Ursinus is still on the list.

I like the fact that schools tie GPA to retaining scholarships, but I wonder if some are really set too high, and how many kids lose their awards for lower grades. One school wants a 3.2...while I truly think my D could do it, it's a concern.

Were those of you who received merit aid invited to the Scholars Day?

My daughter did receive an invitation to Scholars Day but could not attend. She wrote an email explaining what her commitments were, and that not attending did not mean she was disinterested.

We were a little worried about the impression that not attending Scholars Day would leave.

She attended a Red and Gold overnight in January, so perhaps that helped imply more interest?

2.67 is a B-; that's where they get the number from and, yes, that's a low threshold for scholarship $$.....most schools are 3.0-3.2

Great news Pumpkin. I've heard that the invitation means there's a nice merit scholarship coming.

My daughter did attend the scholars day event.

Question for all: Did your son or daughter ACCEPT the offer of admission before you were notified about scholarships or invited to Scholarship Day? I'm asking because my D was accepted to Ursinus way back in November but has never replied that she would attend (or not attend).

Last year, D did not accept her admission until April...so she was invited to scholarship day before Ursinus had a answer.

Congrats to all of this year's applicants who received merit aid offers!

didn't receive word yet :/

My daughter has not made up her mind yet. She did not accept the Admission offer before getting the merit $$$ or being invited to Scholarship Day

My daughter has not made up her mind either. She won't decide until some time in April, I think.

20K here as well. I also received my need-based package info today.

our son rec'd his Merit Scholarship letter yesterday. He was at Scholarship day, and has not sent in his deposit yet, though he's anxious too!..awaiting the loan and hopefully workstudy part of it, he's very happy and excited! I didn't think it would come until April, but now I'll be on the look out for it!

Congratulations everyone. Unfortunately the only thing my S has received is an invitation to the accepted students open house :)

I hear you TrixieAnn. Unfortunately, we're not in the position to pay full tuition, so if we don't hear something in the next couple of days, UC will be off our spreadsheet. :(
