Can anyone provide what the merit aid possibilities (range of amounts) are for students who apply for Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship but do not get it? Thanks!!

Never seen this information posted. However back in 2005, eldest son applied to Vandy and received no merit money at all. At that time, Vanderbilt had a long list of specific merit scholarships with many caveats that were historically linked to certain names, alum and or regions. Most of these scholarships were consolidated into the CV and Chancellors and Ingram scholars with a few still remaining as named scholarships in recent years. One thing you could do is to read CC in March and April in past years to get some feeling for other students who posted about offers. Not many students posted about their smaller merit offers but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any given in envelopes. Students can be very private about such matters. However, you will see ample evidence that Vanderbilt’s no loans merit aid is outstanding, hard to beat when you compare straight out Cost of attendance need-based aid from your FAFSA, CSS Profile and institutional estimates of COA—which you will see is not consistent from college to college and includes some discretionary factors that are not entirely predictable. ie same figures can get different outcomes from college to college. Your best bet is to make sure you have amply explained all details on CSS Profile and you have done your best on merit essays. Good luck!

H2A Number of Enrolled Students Awarded Non-need-based Scholarships and Grants: List the number of degree-seeking full-time and less-than-full-time undergraduates who had no financial need and who were awarded institutional non-need-based scholarship or grant aid. Numbers should reflect the cohort awarded the dollars reported in H1. Note: In the chart below, students may be counted in more than one row, and full-time freshmen should also be counted as full-time undergraduates.

n) Number of students in line a who had no financial need and who were awarded institutional non-need-based scholarship or grant aid (exclude those who were awarded athletic awards and tuition benefits) 139 650
o) Average dollar amount of institutional non-need-based scholarship and grant aid awarded to students in line n $ 24,505 $ 23,533

If ~65 (250/4) freshmen are awarded one of the ‘big three’ scholarships worth $40K annually, ~74 (139-65) freshman are awarded merit-based aid that averages less than $10K

when are ingram scholar finalists announced? Do people get emails or letters?

Ingram Scholars have a weekend for semi to finalist selection on campus. The other scholarships are chosen without on site finalist weekends.
