merit aid?

I was just wondering how competitive it is to get scholarship $$ at UMD. Obviously I won't get Banneker/Key because you have to be truely amazing to qualify for those, but I wanted to know how hard it is to get some of the other scholarships they listed on their website such as President's & Dean's Scholarships. My parents told me I have to pay for half of college, and i'm out of state, so anything I can get in terms of merit aid will help (my dad is vp of a big company so i wont be getting any need-based aid).

i got a dean's scholarship--$1500 for freshman year. i had a 1470 SAT (old scores), in-state, APs, etc etc. their merit scholarships suck. don't depend on any sort of merit aid from them. it's not that it's competitive, it's just that they don't give much of anything. :/ i was in a similar situation as you with the not getting any need-based aid. once you're here, though, there are some other scholarships that are available. they're not going to cover your education by any means, but if you're willing to apply for them they can be helpful.

Lindz...was your scholarship for freshman year only?

What other scholarships are you referring too? Departmental ones?
