Merit Aid

I did not apply for financial aid because I know I will not qualify. How difficult is it to qualify for merit aid?

Last year approximately 25% of the incoming class had no financial need (according to their expected family contribution) and were awarded merit aid averaging roughly $13k. There was a scholarship application that was due with your regular application.

We, too, did not qualify for need based aid. My DD is a senior now, but I remember a person from the financial aid office calling to confirm some of our income items. We then talked about merit aid and the letter with a merit award came thru a short time later.

You should call the financial aid office ASAP and get an application in if you still can. WPI seems to be good about working with you even if you miss deadlines by a little bit.

You don’t have to worry about filling out an application. I talked to an admissions counselor a while back, and she said that it’s helpful to fill out an application, but that it is in no way necessary for merit aid. I didn’t send one in and I just heard back about merit aid (Presidential Scholarship, yay!)

Congrats! Did you get snail mail?

I’m not sure they’d give a Foise without an app. Not sure though.

Thanks! And yes, I got snail mail, and according to WPI’s website:

Basically, it’s not required, but it would be nice to send it in and it can only help.
