Merit Aid?

Does Skidmore not provide any other merit aid or scholarships other than the few Filene and Porter Scholarships?

Skidmore bundles everything together in what they call the Skidmore Grant. Both my sons attend Skidmore, and their grants are extremely generous, much more than any of other schools they applied to.

If you are talking about true merit aid (without need), then the only money available is for Filene and Porter scholars. All other money is offered as part of a financial aid package, and is only available with need.

@jamiecl‌ does that include need based aid as well? We will not qualify for financial aid, so we were hoping to get some scholarships. He’s already gotten into some schools with scholarship money, and we were trying to decide if he should still apply to Skidmore. At this point, he would probably only go if he got some money.

Many schools will identify portions of a financial aid package as a talent, service or academic scholarship or grant. So it is given for merit, but it is still not available to those without financial need. If you follow the link above, those are the only merit scholarships available without any need.
