I definitely caught it too - Hindoo better hang around here with the other parents and students after his D graduates! Is she going to grad school/job???

My daughter is applying to grad schools–U of Chicago, NYU, Boston U, Tufts, Case Western. She hopes to pursue advanced degrees in Art History and Museum Studies, with emphasis on Renaissance/Christian art. … Keeping all options open, she has also applied to Teach for America, which I understand, absolutely loves graduates of Wooster and Harvard. (I like that combo. :)) … By the way, I’m the proud mom. “Hindoo” was the winner of the 1881 Kentucky Derby.

Wooster offered me Dean’s award of $19500. My SAT is 1280/1940; and since I’m an international student I can’t really tell what my GPA is. But if I have to make an estimate, it should be around 3.9 unweighted. I have 4 major ECs: I won swimming contests, published articles in a local magazine, was class president back in the 9th grade and tutored a few secondary school students and high schoolers.
Hope that helps, and btw I didn’t apply for college scholar award.
So ya thats it! Good luck to ur daughter :)

Congrats, pixie! Will you be attending Wooster next fall?

Well that depends on Wooster; they said they may offer me more aid, but that will be determined later in march. If they can meet my need, then I’ll definitely go :)

Hello! My combined M+CR SAT score is 1370, I have an unweighted GPA of 3.85, and I’ve the rigor of my courseload is above average. I have okay extracurricular activities and one that would make me stand out. What are my chances of getting merit aid, and how much would you expect me to get?

My advice, sqdwfe13, is to write the essay for the College Scholar Award. Your SAT score and GPA are plenty good enough for decent merit aid, but that essay could put you into another, higher category.

I believe the College Scholar application was due Jan. 1.

I assumed sqdwfe13 was talking about next year.

Yeah, I would be applying this fall. Thanks Hindoo!

Would I still have a reasonable chance at getting the College Scholar award if I don’t have such good grades (3.85 unweighted GPA) and the courses I took in high school weren’t as rigorous as they could have been? My SAT score is pretty average too (2100). My extracurricular activities are above average, but they’re nothing special, per se. If I got one really bad grade, like a D, does that significantly reduce my chances of getting into Wooster? What about my chances at a Dean’s Award scholarship?

Sorry for all the questions! I have just realized that I won’t be able to go to college out of state unless I can get a very big scholarship at an out-of-state school, making my parents only pay about $20k, and I’ve heard that Wooster awards a lot of merit aid. It seems like a very good fit for me from what I’ve read about it.

Your SAT score is well above average and your GPA is excellent. Stop worrying, sqdwfe13. You’ll be fine.
