Merit Availability/Eligibility

D23 applied RD to a primary major in Newhouse and a secondary major in Arts&Sciences. My question is, is she eligible to receive the Leadership Scholarship? If not, are there are significant merit scholarships available for Newhouse applicants?

That’s a great question…it’s definitely for A&S, so I would think if one were dual enrolled they’d be eligible?

Yeah I just can’t tell how they determine dual enrollment. Newhouse will be her “home college” for core course selection but she would be completing another major in A&S. I guess we shall see.

Here is a list of Newhouse and other scholarships.

No idea what your child’s stats are. Top students will receive these scholarships.

She’s a top student but not in the special groups required for these scholarships. We’re looking for SU merit that can go to Newhouse students.

That first link is just for Newhouse.

Does anyone know if merit scholarship awards from SU come with the admissions decision? What about the financial aid package? Thanks!

My son didn’t receive any merit scholarships (I believe those are awarded with the admission letter), and his need-based financial aid package became available a week after his acceptance. It shows in MySlice once it’s ready (the link with the award year become clickable).

Was this last year, or was he accepted ED?

For this year. He was accepted ED I.

Thank you, and congratulations to him!

Thanks. We were just so glad his college search was over by x-mas because he was really stressed out. Good luck to your student; I believe a major wave of RD decisions should come out either this Friday or next.

I actually just checked my son’s portal for something else and saw this posted:

Merit scholarships (if awarded) are noted in the admission decision letter.

Thank you! FINGERS CROSSED she gets something. She’s very high stats and very interested in their forensic science program. This is all very stressful.
