Does this seem correct? I have a 3.9 uw GPA and a 1490 on the SAT. I only recieved a $9000/yr scholarship and I’m OOS. I know Temple has lowered their merit scholarships since last year, but this seems a little ridiculous. Have other people been recieving similar awards?
Hi Hopefulthtr,
Same here for my son (similar stats, accepted to honors and $9K OOS). I agree that it’s low compared to others. Disappointing because there is much about Temple that we like…but we are happy with merit scholarships he received from his other schools.
It’s an over-correction from past years when they had guaranteed scholarships which too many students accepted and then they fired the Provost and the President resigned. It’s a shame that students this year were affected by it.
I have a question, my son applied on the later side and was accepted on Friday. We found out by checking the portal and there was a video, no acceptance letter or anything. I believe that he was accepted into Honors as the checklist asked him to register for the accepted student day and honors reception…??? There is no acceptance letter to view and no award letter for scholarships…it says that his award is not ready yet. Does that mean that he will get a scholarship and it just isn’t completed yet? The only thing i can see is the financial award letter as of today with the federal $5500 loan on it. I find the portal confusing. He has a 4.08 w gpa and a 30 ACT btw.
I got a similar award. I have a 3.84 GPA and an ACT of 26 and got a grant for 5,500 and that’s it. I know my scores aren’t the best out there but being an out of state student I would have expected more especially when I got 40,000 total from other schools.
Yeah, I also didn’t get into the honor’s college which is a bit of a bummer…
Just got off the phone with admissions because I wanted to ask about scholarship $$ for my son who was accepted into the honors program. I posted above a couple of days ago. According to admissions, if there was no mention of scholarship $$ in the acceptance letter which was on the portal then he is not getting any. Has anyone been accepted into the Honors program and received no money? I am a bit shocked. We are in state. We applied on the late side but we applied because they extended their deadline. Really somewhat annoyed.
@ahill70 I received a call from student volunteers at admissions shortly after I was accepted and I asked when scholarship information was coming out. He said that if it wasn’t on my portal or in my letter then I did not qualify for any. Shortly afterwards, I received my scholarship of full tuition. Many people at admissions have NO IDEA what’s going on. Just wait a bit for merit information to show up in your portal. When was he accepted/what are his stats?
@ptolemycleopatra Yes he accepted and also accepted into Honors. The portal has been frustrating. In the student financial services column, it says to keep checking back. There is no where for me to go to accept the financial aid award of the $5500 federal loan even. It looks like something hasn’t been completed yet on there end which is why I was holding out hope but she made it clear yesterday that if it was not in the acceptance letter that he was not getting anything. I said so there are students who are accepted into Honors who don’t get any scholarship money? (I have yet to come across one) and she said well yes it can happen. He has a 4.08 w gpa and a 30 ACT. Just very surprised as he received merit money from other schools like Virginia Tech, UDel…I thought that Temple would be a given for him. Guess not.
FYI I actually was accepted to Honor’s, the letter just took a while to show up on my portal!
