Merit Awards

In the past, Temple merit was offered automatically based on GPA and SAT/ACT test scores. However, seem like they are using other factors in addition to GPA/scores for evaluation.

My daughter got her merit award about a month after admission. Applied 11/24, Admitted 12/18, merit award 1/13. $20,000/year OOS admitted to Swanson for electrical engineering.

My daughter applied in Nov. and just got acceptance last week. Financial aid a couple days ago… She went test optional. But has 12 APs and a 4.38…Zero merit.
So what exactly do you need to do to get merit without test scores?? She did the short answers and all that. But nothing for merit? Is this appealable?

What is her UGPA? I don’t think TO means they don’t consider them at all.

@hailtopitt1787 - would really appreciate if you could update us all if any more merit awards are to be announced.

My son went test optional and he did receive some merit ($5k, in state). GPA was 94.5 UW / 104.5 W (as of September when he applied) with all honors + 9 APs. I think this equates to about 3.9/4.5 on a 4.0 scale - our school doesn’t calculate that. Our school no longer ranks, but two years ago he was in the top 3% of his class.

We also had a senior in 2019, and he had ~3.8/4.3 GPA and he received no merit, so we were pleasantly suprised to get some this year.

unweighted GPA was 3.89

That is my daughter’s UWGPA but she submitted her 33 ACT. Since she only got $5000, Pitt us not an option anyway since it’s by far her most expensive option right now.

Same here. Just the federal loan. $33k is no deal with a 34 ACT here. I’m shocked that doesn’t bring merit. :frowning:
