Does anyone have the rundown on the amounts of the various merit scholarships awarded to incoming freshman (or a link to that information on the American.edu page)?

And I know things get more competitive every year, but maybe our friend from the admissions office could give us a rough idea of the qualifications of students who were offered the merit awards in the last admissions cycle?

I don’t think AU posts the merit award amounts. I know the presidential award is 27k. 18k and lower ones were also given out. I’m class of 2013 btw.

@desk - sorry, I’ve been away and am now on paternity leave (more on that later). We don’t post the dollar amounts of awards as they can change from year to year, but I can tell you that our stand-alone merit scholarships in the 2010 admissions cycle ranged from $6K to about $30K. Some of our specialized, by application-only scholarships are larger. As to “qualifications” for awardng, those can vary from year to year as the competitiveness of the cohort changes, but generally speaking students should be a few strong ticks above our admissions academic averages (GPA 3.83 school reported, ACT C 30, SAT CR & M 1300).

And as MommaJ pointed out, merit scholarships are (currently) based only on academic strength, not on other “holistic” factors.
