Hi
If any one can point to a list or suggest schools where there are merit based full ride scholarships for Under Graduate studies. And a rough idea as to the type of SAT scroes they are looking for, to award the full scholarship?
Prefer eastern half of US. Live in NY so anything closer will be great.
Thanks for your help.

There are a bunch of threads on this. Use the search feature and it will pull them up for you. The threads are really helpful and really extensive, so you will find info there. Good luck!

True full rides are hard to get without NMF status. A full ride includes tuition, room and board.

There are also some lowish/unranked schools that award them, but sometimes those are commuter/suitcase schools, so an OOS student may not like them.

What are your test scores and GPA? Are you a likely NMF?

Can your family contribute anything towards college? If so, how much?

look here

SAT 2050, CR + M = 1390, GPA 3.85, multiple APs like 7 so far, more in Senior year, school does not rank students, considered a rigourous school, EC’s - over 700 hrs, volunteering, research, etc, model UN, science olympiad state finalist, presented research poster selected for state finals etc. Retaking SAT in May. Deciding which schools to apply. It will help to know which schools offer merit aid [non need based]. At this time, I do not think will qualify for need based aid. I am not sure about NMF - may be a semifinalist??? Have enough money saved up for under graduate but trying to see if we can get merit based aid for UG, then can use the saved up money for grad school.
Thanks for your help.

Wow - Mom, thank you for the link, will read through it…

What was your PSAT score? That determines whether you’re a NMSF.

Also take the ACT.

Even if you increase your M+CR by 50 points, I don’t think that’s high enough for a free ride at schools that would interest you.

My kids’ undergrad, which is very generous with merit, does give nice NMF awards and will give “free tuition” (not a free ride) to students with a M+cr of 1400. This is the highest ranked school with this generous of merit. To get more, you have to go way down in ranking.

How much do you have in your college fund? Can you spare any of it for undergrad?

PSAT - 116, I live in NY. Even if I can get full tution benefit that will be great. I can use the money saved for UG or for Grad school and will hopefully cover the 4 years for one or the other. Hoping to increase CR+ W to >1450 in the next sitting, but do not know how it will shape up.

Opps-- sorry it was PSAT 209 or 214 dont remeber, have to look it up.

Washington & Lee’s Johnson scholars receive full ride merit scholarships. NMF not required in past, merely application to school by December 1 with one additional essay.

how competitive is that scholarship? ^^
how many applicants? how many awards? What are typical stats? Do you need a hook (URM, regional diversity, etc)?

The OP should apply to a couple of schools with competive big scholarships, but also some with assured large scholarships.

Keep in mind that some/most of those competitve large scholarships require an on-campus “interview weekend” which aren’t always easy to fit into a senior’s tight schedule. Plus, you often have to pay for the travel costs yourself.

Check Miami U in Ohio. They do scholarships based on SAT scores.

The stats for the Johnson are that 3100 kids applied by December 1st and 200 were invited to campus. I believe less than half will be given the actual scholarship, although there are some secondary scholarships that are linked to need.

These tables (Kiplinger’s Best Value Colleges) provide stats on need-based aid (% of students receiving, average amount of award), you can sort based your criteria -

It’s not on the East coast, but the University of Tulsa has a presidential scholarship that is full ride. It’s really hard to get though so it’ll take some work (34 ACT or SAT equivalent or NMF NAM NHS)

It’s on this page
[Scholarship Opportunities - University of Tulsa](http://www.utulsa.edu/admission-and-financial-aid/undergraduate-admission/presidential-scholar-program/Scholarship-Opportunities-for-National-Merit-Finalists.aspx)

^ The Tulsa program is getting more and more competitive each year. Part of it, probably, is the applicant pool; the other part is, the program used to give out about 80 scholarships a year and it is about 45 now. I guess it has something to do with the endowment. That being said, here’s one kid’s stat who won the scholly.

NMF
ACT: 34
GPA: 3.98? (1 single B in HS); most competitive course load at HS
Class rank: 3/~400
Extra: 3 club presidencies, some 400 hours of community service etc.

Personally I love TU (alum) and encourage anyone who doesn’t mind Oklahoma applying to it ;)

Edit: Anyone who has a love for engineering and gambling should pursue petro engineering or geophysics. Not many colleges can beat TU on those majors!
