Merit-based scholarships and Aggie Assurance

Okay, so I have been wondering whether Aggie Assurance claims already-awarded merit-based scholarships as part of the financial support to cover full tuition. Because if it does, then apparently it would create an obvious unfairness to students who show better qualities.

In case I'm not making it clear, for example, let John be a B-level student, whose family income is, say, $45,000. With the same income range, Robert, on the other hand, excelled in school and was awarded a merit-based scholarship of $3,000. Both qualify for Aggie Assurance. So, if it does include Robert's merit-based scholarship to meet the tuition coverage while John gets the same total amount of Aggie Assurance aid (in grants?!), don't you think it would seem unfair for Robert?

$3K in aid is $3K in aid. Does it really matter which “bucket” it comes out of? TAMU has a pool of funds to award. How they label that is up to their discretion. I’d be thrilled if my S received $3k in merit aid. Merit aid is supposed to be without consideration of the financial status of the student. If Robert is a student TAMU really wants to court, they will offer him BOTH financial aid and a merit award. Also, you can provide TAMU with other aid offers you have received and ask them to review your file again.
