Merit Based Scholarships (LSA)

I seriously doubt they’ll match a scholarship because your son simply said he got one from UCB. They aren’t going to get in a bidding war over your son lol.

anyone receive any large LSA merit based scholarships YET?

It’s more likely that almost if not all the large merit scholarships have already been given out.

If great students with the highest possible uw GPA’s and test scores, most rigorous classes, many focused ec’s, numerous high level awards, lots of focused community service, glowing recommendations, strong essays (showing fit and desire to attend), ongoing demonstrated interest, etc. are NOT receiving these merit based scholarships… WHO is?

I’ve heard of several people who recieved Shipman’s based on scientific research (ie Siemen, Intel, etc) competitions.
There’s only 15.

I was a Waitlistee at Stanford (which is a pretty big thing in my book anyway) and I only got $1500 at Mich, being a legacy and having really unique extracirriculars.
I did call FA and asked if they could somehow? close to match the merit aid I got at peer institutions- full rides- and they like balked :0

Any updates? Have any LSA admits who received the Regents now been notified of any additional merit based scholarships? Many exceptional students still getting nothing additional?!

Just checked my financial aid offer and I was awarded the “Rogel Award of Excellence.”

My son received an estimated financial aid summary, all it has is regent scholarship, work study, all kinds of loans. So when will they post merit based scholarships?

^ did the finaid packages come via snail mail? and also, are either/both of you OOS?

Sorry, I just have not heard anything about finaid yet, and I am really anxious. lol.

I think Rogel is for OOS only.
My son is in-state.

Yeah, I’m OOS. Checked my package online.

I didn’t get anything, which surprised me considering my stats. Ugh, this really puts a damper on my college hopes and dreams.

I don’t have an aid award notice on my Wolverine Access account yet because they some how haven’t processed my Noncustodial Parent Profile. I emailed the OFA and I hope this is resolved soon, so I can get my financial aid package! Does anybody have any recommendations on what else to do?

They haven’t processed my non custodial parent thing either even though other schools have gotten it. Also, can I not receive financial aid until my taxes are filed? I submitted both CSS and FAFSA but my parents haven’t finished filing taxes…

Hey same on the Non Custodial form! Not processed though it was sent 2 months ago. I really hope it’s just a huge overlook on their part or something. Going to call them tommorow though to double check.

I guess I got lucky…$15000 for Rogel and an invite for Shipman (snailmail)… and a sizable grant…

Good luck to everyone else!

Well at least I’m not the only one! All of the other schools that ask for it have already processed it as well. U of M can be so frustrating sometimes!

@aairplanes
Which state are you from?
What will you study?
Just wonder why there is no merit scholarship for in-state students.

@wildwood888
I am from Massachusetts; I left my “plan of action” as undecided.

Wildwood, it is my understanding that U of M basically doesn’t give merit scholarships except for the exceptional students. It is way too big of a school to give out merit packages to all who consider themselves deserving. Also its tuition for instate is considered relatively low compared to the peer schools to which kids are applying. My son has gotten merit offers from every school except Michigan and we are not at all surprised. Michigan is notorious for little merit, my opinion is based on knowing dozens of attendees the past several years (kids who were also accepted at places like Georgetown, Notre Dame-not so much the ivies) and also reading the same on this board, buried within various threads. No one should be holding his or her breath for merit, especially if you are in state.
