Does anyone know if rpi is known for giving more money to students if they appeal? I have heard students of being able to have their tuition from another school matched(or maybe close) by their top choice school but I’m not sure how often this occurs. Also, does rpi give more scholarship money out to select students after some time or is this just a rumor? Thanks!
We had some success getting an increase to merit aid, based on other admissions/scholarships and additional awards and grades after the original application. It was a small addition to a nice award, but enough to make our decision clear. And, two years later, it was a good one!
thanks so much @belmom ! thats very reassuring to hear. I received a great merit award but it still doesn’t nearly suffice for us as the original tuition is 72k which is upsetting with rpi as our top choice. hopefully we can get a bit more in future!
We asked for money at another school and sent them a copy of the better offer along with updated stats. You need to make sure it is a comparable or better school. They said that she had already gotten close to the max (which was true) and couldn;t give more. I was very polite and they were very polite. No downside to asking as its not likely they will take money away they already gave you. As I read somewhere, you want them more until they accept you and then they want you more after they accept you.
Ask for what you want and/or need while being prepared to explain why. I found the financial aid office staff to be polite and helpful. They provided a small bump to make it happen for us.
