Merit Money

Has anyone that has been accepted received any Merit Scholarships? I heard that merit money is very hard to get this year at UNH.

A friend’s son received 10K/yr in merit aid, he is a freshman this year (from MA)

We’re in state and my son didn’t receive any merit money. He met the criteria for SAT scores and he has a nice GPA (3.8 unweighted) but goes to a competitive high school so isn’t in the top 15% of his class.

With regard to financial aid, his portal page says what’s below - basically nothing. Does that mean he received no financial aid? Or that nothing’s been posted yet.

The following information is based on your being a Resident/on campus/undergrad student receiving financial aid for the Full-time both semesters.

I think it just means nothing has been posted yet. My son got a scholarship based on his SAT scores and then financial aid. It was very competitve with his other offers - we are NH residents.

Thanks, Tozubri. I’m guessing it will be the same as for my older son - very little financial aid that made out of state schools and even private schools more affordable for us. He’s received merit money from UMass (I find that so interesting that his state flagship school doesn’t and the Mass state flagship school did) so I’m guessing he won’t end up being a Wildcat. I know the state doesn’t support UNH at all which is such a shame.

We just received the financial aid award from UNH. We are out of state and are very pleased with the award. At this point, it is now less expensive than our in state university. It will be interesting to see if UMASS will award us need based aid as well as the merit aid that they previous awarded us. It will be interested to see how it all plays out in the end,
