My son did not apply until after November 1. He has been admitted. His GPA is 4.3 and ACT 31. He is waiting to hear about direct admit to Kelly. He is told he will get no merit scholarship due to missing the November 1 deadline. This makes IU an unlikely selection for him given that we are out of state. Does anyone know if we can appeal for merit scholarship?
You can’t appeal anything. If you miss the deadline, you aren’t very likely to get a scholarship. That’s just how the process works.
The deadline is the deadline from what I’ve been told. Also, I believe the deadline for the Selective Scholarships is today. I know when we visited IU this summer the office of Scholarships stressed not to miss the deadlines for scholarship applications.
That’s a shame. I was hoping we could show them money offered from other colleges and see if they would consider matching as IU is a top choice.
You can always give it a try. The worst they will do is say no. I just got the sense from the program we attended that there was no missing the deadline. You’re other option if he will not get Merit and if he wasn’t invited to apply to the SSA’s then he could look at his HS or local scholarships and see if he can get any of those to help offset the cost.
I will say, every school my D was considering all stressed to us about the deadline for the merit scholarships. She was offered merit scholarships at two of the OOS schools we looked at but IU surprisingly didn’t give her anything as an Instate. She was invited to apply to SSA’s and a few others at IU but I think those are long shots. Unfortunately, our FASFA indicates we don’t get any help so she won’t be a needs based candidate.
