Merit Scholarship: HELP NEEDED!

I really want to go to RU Pharm, but the scholarship offer was significantly lower than the the offers I got from other schools. But I know that someone who has similar stats than me got so much more money offered for Pharm, so I want to ask RU to re-evaluate the scholarship offer.

Which department should I contact and what is the best way to approach this without sounding like I'm trying to "negotiate?" Should I call them or email them?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would call rather than email but as I have never done this I cannot direct you specifically. Maybe someone has experience with this.

When were you accepted/when did they notify you about a scholarship? I got a scholarship to the school of engineering, but that doesn’t transfer over to the school of pharmacy right?

Scholarships do not transfer between schools.

Hopefully I can get additional funding/scholarship in my 2nd year or so…

momo did you ever call?

@rualum

I did, but they couldn’t really help me. :(

momo who or what dept did you talk to (for future reference).

btw does your high school rank?

I was looking at the Rutgers pharm scholarship thread from Jan 2011 and lots of people were getting 3500 @ pharm and 10k at SAS and SOE.

Someone requested a review and got this letter back:

The competition for Rutgers’ first-year student scholarships is extraordinary this year because of the high quality of the applicant pool. Eligibility criteria for our first-year student scholarships is based on a student’s SAT and/or ACT scores, cumulative grade-point average, and class rank (if applicable), and students are offered the highest monetary award for which they qualify. You are a terrific student, and we are very happy to be able to offer you a Scarlet Scholarship. Unfortunately we are not able to offer you a higher award. Scholarship amounts are not negotiable.

Please note that all students eligible for a Scarlet Scholarship are encouraged to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15. The Office of Financial Aid will consider you for an additional Dean’s Scholarship based on the estimated family contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA. Students who qualify for more money through a Dean’s Scholarship will be notified in their Initial Offer Letter (IOL) generated by the Office of Financial Aid.

We hope this helps you understand the merit award process.Congratulations on your selection for a Scarlet Award and we hope to see you on campus in the fall.
