Please post your basic stats (SAT-V, SAT-M, GPA), intended major, and whether your acceptance letter included a merit scholarship, and if so, the amount. Thanks.

Stats: 1550 SAT (800 math; 750 verbal); sATII: 800 math IIC, 710 chem, 700 bio, GPA 3.9 National Merit Semifinalist

Offered Trustees Scholarship (renewable for four years) $24,000/year

1380 SAT (710 verbal, 670 math), 31 ACT, 3.94 uw GPA, lots of EC's, good essay, great recs

intended major: psychology or social work, double major with spanish

offered Provost Scholarship $14,400/yr (renewable up to 4 years). i found out while i was cheering at a basketball game. i was sooo excited! :D my dad gave me the letter and i didn't even read the words. i just scanned it for numbers, and when i finally found them i was ecstatic. now my going to case is a viable option. case has always been my first choice, but i had no idea how i was going to afford $37,000/yr! now it's down to $23,000 and it seems very doable!! :D

congrats chelsea! i agree it is exciting!

Oh we're supposed to put major: I applied to the biomedical engineering program

yeah it is! i did looking kind of crazy though, jumping around on the school bleachers in the middle of the JV game (i cheer varsity). as i was hopping around in pure bliss i looked over at my friends and they were all giving me thumbs up and smiling! :D

chelsea what part of ohio do you come from? what musical instrument do you play? I play cello but also don't want to major in music

i'm about 20-30 min south of columbus (depending on how fast i drive ;) ). i play the flute and the piano, but i don't want to major in music either. i enjoy playing though, and i still take lessons on the piano once a week.

No merit scholarship :(

My son had only a 1280 SAT but a 31 ACT. Great recs and ecs. Also, very intense high school load of classes with a 3.89 uw.

Seems most of you that received the scholarships have high SATs, perhaps that is how they judge? We were hoping they would look at course load and grades (which would have been good in my son's case). Still, congrats to those that did get awards, you must be very happy!

I got in and was offered the Provost's Scholarship of 14,400. I am majoring in biomedical engineering and my stats are: SAT-1330, ACT-30, 4.26W, 4.0UW, 10 AP's, good EC's and recs. I still dont know if this is enough money for me attend it will all depend on need-based financial aid. congrats to everyone else

Son got Presidential 19400 per

34 ACT, 4.0, Trustee's $24000

oh, sorry, and major: probably chemistry or biochemistry

Little John how likely are you to go to Case? Are you still considering other universities?

yeah, sure, i'm still considering other universities, but I think Case would be a great place to go if thats where i get the best scholarship. it all kind of depends on where I get scholarships, cuz i dont want to have to burden my parents or myself with loans and stuff, since i'll qualify for little or no financial aid.
Also, I've never seen the campus but i've heard conflicting opinions: some that it has a really nice campus and others that it does not. The person who interviewed (by phone) said that he really didnt get a secure college campus feeling when he went there because it was not very closed-off to the city. Before i make a decision, im definitely going to have to visit some schools -- i havent formally visited any of them.

what about u, psatmadness, u pretty confident your going there?

Hope you don't mind me stepping in here: We visited Case last summer and loved the campus, very eclectic...a mixture of old and new. Yes, it's mixed in with the city life, but not the downtown area...that is a ways away. Your Case Western ID lets you ride the public transportation for free though so it is only minutes if you do want to go there.

You are also only minutes from Circle somethingorother...museums, etc. very pretty part of town that contains the artsy stuff.

We asked our tour guide (a guy) if he felt safe and he said yes and doesn't even lock his dorm room. Of course he did not recommend that!

You can fly into Cleveland airport and by showing your CASE ID get a free train ride to campus. Once there, again, your ID will get you to your part of campus free.

Hope it's ok to copy/paste here...I thought T990 did a good job of explaining Case in a previous post so I will copy that in part here: "Only was there for an afternoon, but I found the campus much nicer than I expected. There is an air of greatness about it; something like a small Cornell in the middle of a city. There are quite a few brand new buildings (where are they getting all the money?). It is located adjacent to a park-like area with Severance Hall (Cleveland Symphony), botanical gardens, museums, Cleveland Institute of Music, etc. It is a bit like the Fenway loop area of Boston.

CWRU is in the process of building new student apartments (for 700 students) in the north campus which are to open in Fall 2005. Another surprise, it is a long, long, long walk from one end of campus to the other.

It's an easy to walk to Little Italy (good thing because there is essentially nowhere to park) and to places like Quizno's. It seems the area is improving for student life over what was written about the place 10 years ago.

The "Right Guide" to colleges (not the exact title) says the campus is not safe and you should not walk alone at night. I did get hassled by a guy asking for $3 for gas as I walked around. But I've heard from students that it is safe, so something to consider."

Case is also next to the University Hospital/Cleveland Clinic mega medical complex. The whole area is considerably nicer than it was a decade ago. One of the ugliest buildings on campus - Baker Building - has been torn down, and is be replaced by greenspace. Of course it is an urban campus, but we lived about a mile from it for many years in Cleveland Heights, and it really didn't seem to be a problem. You have to use common sense, no matter where you are.

I started a new thread called "Tell me about CWRU" to discuss the school. Let's keep this thread for merit scholarhips (nor not) w/ stats (SAT-V, SAT-M, GPA). Thanks!

Little John: I am now taking the possibility of going to Case very seriously. The scholarship helps a lot and I liked the campus and people when I visited. I have applied to other universities but won't hear from them til march or april

psatmadness
my D also got the Trustee's at CWRU, and today got accepted into UNC-Chapel Hill. Just like you. Congratulations. Are you waiting to see $$$ offers from UNC, and how would go from there? We are very confused, but planning visits to both places.
