$24000 Trustees Scholarship

A lot like Little John mentioned, I don't want to burden my parents. Funny thing is, they would rather see me go to Notre Dame (I don't know if I've been accepted yet), though it would probably cost considerably more.

I personally like the campus, a mixture of high-tech/innovative and older buildings, the only prettier campuses I saw were Dartmouth, ND, and maybe Mich.

Unless I get into+get a lot of aid from ND or Dartmouth, I'll probably go to Case.

congrats choco! I actually have applied to other places but all regular decision so won't hear until April. I have also already been accepted to Michigan and Ga Tech. And yes, scholarships will play a big factor. I really do like Case though - and their biomed engineering program is great which is what I want to go into. Right now I'm leaning toward Case....but we'll see!

For anyone who is interested in how Case gives out merit-based scholarships, here is some information from their undergraduate bulletin. All scholarships listed below are for freshman entering the College of Arts and Sciences or the Case School of Engineering. Case can also establish limits on the number of Trustees', President's, and Provost's scholarships offered.

Trustee's Scholarship $24,000/yr
-students must be in the top 10% of their graduating class, and have composite SAT scores of 1500 or a composite ACT score of at least 35

President's Scholarship $19,400/yr
-students must be in the top 10% of their graduating class, and have composite SAT scores of 1400 or a composite ACT score of at least 33

Provost's Scholarship $14,400/yr
-students must be in the top 15% of their graduating class, and have composite SAT scores of 1300 or a composite ACT score of at least 31

Chelsea, thinking outloud here:

From your bulletin:

Provost's Scholarship $14,400/yr
-students must be in the top 15% of their graduating class, and have composite SAT scores of 1300 or a composite ACT score of at least 31

and you also mention:

Case can also establish limits on the number of Trustees', President's, and Provost's scholarships offered.

I wonder why my son did not get the Provost's Scholarship then? He is in the top 10% of his class with an ACT of 31. Does this mean they exhausted all the P. Schol. on the EA that came before him? or perhaps his school record didn't show the 31 ACT? REally makes me think because I was surprised he didn't get it...I wonder if there is more to the equation. Would it be rude to email and ask?

Thanks for any opinions.

You should ask. It is not rude.

provost scholarship - 14,000/yr

BME Major

I think you should go ahead and ask, especially if he has received a considerable amount of scholarship money from other schools. Ask them what you can do to have your son's scholarship eligibility reevaluated. If your son is doing well in school, offer to send a mid-year report. Go out of your way to say that your son is seriously considering Case, but money will be an important issue in his final decision. Good luck! I hope everything turns out well for you!

I got the Presidential- $19,400/year. Honestly, I was a little disappointed. I was hoping to get the Trustee's, but oh well. I am 1/635 w/ a 1460 and a kid who isn't even in the top 10% got the same.

Wow, Dig, you sound a lot like me (at least stat wise). I'm ranked first in my class and have a 1460, and am applying to Case. What's your intended major?

I want to go into Management/ Public Policy which, believe it or not, turns me off from Case. They have an excellent business school, but place a lot fo emphasis on their graduate programs. It was a free application and is a good school to have in my back pocket. I think I am going to take a recruiting visit for Track and see if I like it.

If you have 1500 SAT and top 10% in your class, are you gauranteed the Trustees scholarship or are you just elligible?

D got her letter today, Presidential Scholarship offer of $19,400. 1480 SAT's, top 2% of her class of 328 at very competitive high school, all AP classes this year. She applied without seeing CWRU, we're going during the February vacation to see the school and the city. She's taking advantage of the accepted students overnight visit, to really experience the school. Is anyone else going then?

I think I'm going to the Experience Case day in March. I cheer basketball, and I will have much more time when it is over. February is too busy! :)

pamsott if only your daughter scored 20 points higher, she could've gotten 25k or so. 7 thousand dollars due to 20 points.

That's the stupidest concept. This college puts too much emphasis on SAT score.

are these scholarships the amount of money granted/year or money over four years?

I think you are just eligible. My son qualified for one of the lesser scholarships number-wise with his ACT but did not get it so there must be more to the formula. The amount of the scholarship is what is given to you each year for four years if you maintain certain grades, etc. I'm sure there are guidelines although I don't know them.

I agree jawaad87, way too much emphasis on SAT score. In fact, that is why son didn't apply to Tulane. We did not realize (until Chelsea 2005 posted) that Case did their scholarships this same way.

mominin:
Did you get my private message? Just wondered because I know it's a little hard to figure out. Thanks.

jawaad87 i totally agree with you. I got a 1490 and am in the top 1% of my class, but i only got the President's scholarship because i missed the cutoff by 10 measly points. this is so dumb, if only i had gotten one more question right on the stupid SATs...

huhcollegehaha:
You got a scholarship worth $19,400 per year for 4 years and you are complaining? Maybe you'll get a better offer someplace else, but I know lots of kids, with scores as good as yours, that would kill for that scholarship! Congratulations!

Don't disagree, jawaad87, but it is still a lot of money. In their letter, they state "Official notice of this award and any other merit or need based aid for which you qualify will be sent by the Office of Financial Aid..." Does that mean there might be more merit aid? Wouldn't that be nice!!!
