MMood87, The biggest difference is with the grant money. I have read that schools will adjust the grant money. For instance a freshman may only be eligible for a 2,500 loan; as a sophmore it goes up to 3,500, and in your junior and senior year to 5,500 per year which they may take away from your grant money. Unless your grades fall you will never have to pay back what they give in scholarships. I am hoping that Case continues with the grant money they offered us because lets face it all the colleges are charging about two grand more per year.

Wait, so I'm just curious, this Financial Aid Package that we get from Case will not always be the same? I mean, the "Case Grant-in-Aid" that is given in the package will not always be the same for 4 years..and is just like a little bait?

Jediknight05 - I am not sure about Case's Grant-In-Aid, but I am going to ask the financial aid office when my son & I visit in March. I can tell you that I have read this in a lot of different places, but assuming that college tuition keeps jumping up every year I am hoping that they keep the Grant-In-Aid (which means that the loans will increase yearly tho). I did read in several places tho (on the Case web-site) that it is still possible to get more tuition money...i.e., you have the top GPA in your major, the best paper etc.

Got the letter.

Provost's, $14,400, 1390, 3.8

T990 - Congratulations! Are you going to Case for sure?

Will wait for everything to come in and then decide, but this is looking like a great option.

Provost's $14,400, 1360, 3.6, EA
Business Administration
Also gave me a $26xx Stafford Loan despite my extremely high EFC.

Will likely go to OSU though, didn't like Case that much when I visited it.

parasitelin
I have not seen Case yet. Can you please tell us what put you off. Was it the unattractive campus; the city of Cleveland; or the program itself?

Hehe, my friend was awarded the Provost's Special Scholarship even though he's a white male...:)

The city of Cleveland. It's definitely deserving of its title "Poorest City in the Nation."

parasitelin - so glad you're back with your wonderful opinions. There are many people who absolutely love Cleveland and my family is one of them.

This CC board is supposed to be helpful, and for those of us who use it as such do not appreciate your sarcastic comments. Unless you have questions could you just please refrain from coming to this forum. Thank you!

I got a 24k with 1560 SAT and 34 ACT.
I was really happy with it, but I ended up with higher packages from other schools based on need.

1480SATI, 800SATII Chem, 710W (but an 80 on the essay), 700 bio
Got Presidents, 19,400
Ranked 5/320, 4.0
10AP etc
4th Place Nationally Siemens Westinghouse

FWIW... the previously posted information about SAT and grade requirements for scholarship was true last year, but for this admitted class(2009) that has been changed. There is no longer any kind of decision made based just on SAT etc.

even if you do get 24k wouldn't you still have to pay around 15,000 for housing, supplies, etc?

also, do you need an interview for scholarships

do you need an interview for scholarships
[/quote]
Admissions interviews or alumni interviews are optional. My daughter requested an alumni interview but instead they had an admissions recruiter interview her over the phone (very low key). No application is necesssary for most of the scholarships.

If you're talking about the PreProfessional program or the Talent scholarships, then thats entirely different.

Costs - see:

For freshman dorms, its more like $ 38,114 right now. The new north village apartments will run about $7,000/yr, but you can opt out of the meal plan.

I noticed that you can buy a computer from the school on the "accepted students" page - but not sure if its a good deal, etc. If they agree to keep it running and free of viruses, I'd say its a good deal. ;)

Son originally did not get a scholarship because a 31ACT was overlooked. Today the ppwk arrived and his appeal was successful, $14,000 Provost Scholarship. Case is tied for first for school he wants to attend but I'm sure they will now lower our aid package...we will have to see if they do. I would be shocked if they don't.

mominin, congrats on your son's scholarship! that's great. i went through the appeal process for a higher scholarship (i was close to the presidential's scholarship). i found out on friday that my appeal was denied. i think it's for the better, though. i was sure that i wanted to go to Case, but i told myself that if the appeal didn't go through then i wasn't meant to go there. i also found out that i won a $3,000 OLAP scholarship, but it still makes Case over $10,000 more than my 2nd choice, Ohio State. i have a great scholarship to Ohio State (full tuition) and i really like the school. OSU has a good honors program. when i step back and looked at the whole picture, i realize that OSU is not only more financial realistic, but also the better fit out of the two. i think i'll be happy at Ohio State, and that's what matters. good luck to everyone going to Case. i'm sure you'll love it there too.

Best wishes chelsea 2005! How wonderful to get a full ride scholarship to OSU. My son was admitted to the honors engineering program at our state school and so far, I believe they too will be cheaper (although not a full ride!). This sure is a big decision, best wishes to you as you start your college life.

thanks mominin! yeah, i was pretty suprised to get a full tuition (they only give away 30 and there are over 5,000 incoming freshman). i visited the dorms today with my dad, and i picked out my favorite, bradley. it is across from the honors building. the honors building has a nice sitting room with leather sofas for studying. i'm very excited and relieved that this whole process is nearing an end. thank for all of your support! good luck to your son, wherever he goes!

i got president's scholarship: $19,400 k a year.

uw: 3.87; w: 4.75; sat: 1490 (800-m, 660-v); sat ii: writing-740, math IIC-790, bio-790; 10 APs & heavy courseload; good ec's & lots of leadership positions; good recs; magnet school.
