Do i need to fill out the FAFSA and PROFILE apps in order to be considered for merit scholarships or am i automatically considered for merit based scholarships when i apply? I already applied btw (out of state)

You need to complete FAFSA for any scholarship, including Merit based.

@Jay, where did you get that information?

Oops, that came out wrong. I shouldn’t post so late. Merit Scholarships do NOT require fafsa.

From the UM site:
"Scholarships administered by the U-M Office of Financial Aid are listed on the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing page. The majority of these scholarships are awarded automatically to eligible students upon admission, and no application is required beyond the application for admission. "

[Office of Financial Aid: Types of Scholarships](http://www.finaid.umich.edu/Home/TypesofAid/ScholarshipsGrants/TypesofScholarships.aspx)

^Yes, but I believe many of the scholarships are “need-informed” meaning it would be helpful to at least submit FAFSA.

I received a letter a week ago telling me that I have been nominated for a need aware merit scholarship (I’m out of state) and that in order to be eligible I would need to submit both a CSS and FAFSA proflile.
