Merit Scholarship question

:)
I became interested in Rochester after receiving the Bosch & Lomb award
and have a few questions .....

a) Is Dec 1 a deadline for just the REMS, REBS and GRADE programs or also
for any merit scholarship programs? Could someone provide a pointer to merit
scholarships that Rochester offers, Please?

b) How competitive is REMS ...10 people are admitted each year....any stats
on how many apply ...?

c) Is admissions at Rochester somewhat dependent on
'demonstrated interest'....for example I hear that WUSTL tracks how many
times applicant visits their campus .... if they did interviews...etc.

I believe that December 1 is the deadline for all merit scholarships.

<a href="http://enrollment.rochester.edu/financial/undergrads/merit.shtm%5B/url%5D">http://enrollment.rochester.edu/financial/undergrads/merit.shtm</a></p>

And yes, Rochester does care about expressed interest. And interviews (including alumni or regional interviews) are important and evaluative.

Thank you very much Chedva :)

I saw on the linked page that the deadline fro the 'Ahora' scholarship was
Dec 1 but could not get any more information related to date on the others
(specifically the Bausch:D and Lomb)

also any information on the REMS admission stats (% admitted) would be
helpful...

I can't remember exactly, but I think REMS had about 800 apps. I believe UR interviewed 50 for 10 slots. It's a great program. REMS interview weekend was a great experience. Kids/parents get to learn more about the program. My son met some great kids (who were all outstanding). UR really goes all out for the kids and their parents. My son left saying he'd go if he got in, but he didn't get a spot. It all works out, though. All the kids my son met wound up with great choices.

Not sure if it's on the new website but UR has high expectations. I believe prospective REMS students need a 3.95 unweighted GPA and to be ranked in the top 2% of their class. Not sure what the SAT requirement was but my son had 1560/1600 with similar SAT IIs. The only negative that weekend was that kids were randomly assigned to interviewers. My son's interviewer seemed to focus on research which was not one of his strengths - some kids did Intel/Siemens. Some did internships in labs. Not sure if research was as important to other interviewers since some kids weren't asked about it.

I bellieve as long as your app is in by Dec. 1, you will be considered for merit aid.
If you are a national merit candidate and designate UR as your first choice, should you be a winner, UR will give you the 2.5K, along with another 10K, both renewable. B & L is similar, about 8K and renewable.

Yes, demonstrated interest counts. Visit if you can, line up an interview eithe during your visit, or when reps visit your area.
