Hello! DS thrilled to be accepted to his first choice, U of R. Acceptance letter arrived yesterday but no mention of any merit award. While he did not apply for financial aid, he understands some students receive nominal merit awards. Based on his stats (SAT 2290; 3/300 in class rank; 4 yr varsity athlete (track); lots of community service) we thought he might be given some award. Do merit awards accompany the acceptance letter?

Should appear on My Roc account within a week of receiving letter. And I would expect that he will receive some merit.

Thanks, final child. This is our 3rd of 4 to head off to college and older two received scholarship offers with the acceptance letter. Regardless, I hope to pull his feet back to the earth…so many great kids from his school applied and he is honored to get in.

They appear to have emailed today about merit awards (or, at least, I got an email today). If you didn’t try checking the account. Best wishes!

DS received $15k Presidential Scholarship today. He is so happy! Thank you.

I received the Dean’s Scholarship today for $10k! Quick question, is this $2.5k/year or $10k per year? Thanks!

Congrats to your son, two2go! May I ask did he receive his merit award notification via email or online?

Also, does anyone know whether Rochester still gives automatic merit to NMFs, and, if so, how much?

@two2go–that would be $10K per year

@Candles–yes, NMFs get a guaranteed $15K with an additional $2K if they designate UR as their first choice by the deadline.

Thanks for answering, WayOutMom. Do you know if the merit awards are posted online, are they on the MyRoc page, and, if so, where?

There is a tab in the “My Roc” account labeled “Merit”.

Is that certain for this year, WayOutWestMom? I called Rochester to ask and I was told they aren’t sure how much the NM scholarships this year would be. This was a few weeks ago as I was trying to figure out how to handle a corporate scholarship and the Rochester one my D has been offered, I was hoping to find out how much the Rochester NM would be, but no luck.

Thanks, hereweareagain. May I ask where the tab is located?

candles, log into MyRoc. There are several tabs under the student information - some may be recent actions, registered events, merit scholarships, and application status. The merit scholarship one showed up after the scholarship was awarded.

DS received an email from the Dean of Admissions that began: “I love my job!” telling him he received the scholarship and directing the student to the online portal wherein the dollar amount of the award was stated. I believe the Dean does enjoy giving the good news. We appreciated the personal note in the acceptance letter referencing a specific line in our son’e essay that touched the Dean. Class act.

mamabear–don’t know for certain that’s the amount this year. But $15K has been the amount NMFs have gotten for the past 4 years.

Boy I’m glad I’m done with all of this…

$12k here, interesting
