merit scholarship???

I just got accepted at UMass Amherst. I received an email saying that I was awarded merit scholarship. Does anyone know how much money is usually awarded for merit scholarships?

According to the CDS http://www.umass.edu/oapa/publications/cds/common_data_set.pdf</a> the average freshman who had NO need received just under $3500 (line H2A).

To further clarify…in case the OP thinks that the “average student” received almost 3500,… I think Erin’s Dad meant to write: “the average merit award” was…

n) Number of students in line a who had no financial need and who were awarded institutional non-need- based scholarship or grant aid (exclude those who were awarded athletic awards and tuition benefits) - 366

o) Average dollar amount of institutional non-need- based scholarship and grant aid awarded to students in line n - $3492

So, 366 students rec’d merit, and the average award was 3492…That could mean that some rec’d a larger amount and some received a lesser amount.

Are your stats (especially test scores) quite high for the school?

UMass Amherst often gives more merit aid to OOS students than those who are from MA. So, your merit aid offer may depend on whether you are from MA or not.
