Did anyone received an email today from UMD with the following:

In the category of all good things come in threes, I understand congratulations are in order. In addition to (1) being admitted to the University of Maryland, and (2) being invited to College Park Scholars, I believe I (3) saw your name on a list of Merit Scholarship recipients. (Letters were mailed out Monday from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.) This is no surprise to me. Having spent most of December and January reading countless applications to identify those to invite to College Park Scholars, I know your academic and co-curricular qualifications are most deserving of this award.

I have not received a letter awarding merit scholarship. Has anyone else?

That's what I thought so checked the umd website to see if a Greig Stewart existed. He does. I will keep positive and assume the letter has not arrived yet. I feel better that someone else received the same email.

I got a letter this morning saying that I have been named a Dean's Scholar in the College of Chemical and Life Sciences and will be receiving a $1,500.00 award for the first year. On top of it, I am also invited to participate in their Catalyst Seminar and a research program funded by the HHMI. I am so confused about the the invitation to all these special programs. I have been accepted into their gemstone program and I thought I got into the School of Art and Science so what's the deal with the College of Chemical and Life Sciences. If I participate in this HHMI research program, I will get some extra money around $1200 per semester and $2600 per summer.

I got my email friday and the letter today. $8,000 a year (I am out of state). With my stats 1410/2070, top 10%, 4.14w I was pretty surprised I got that much. It was also called a presidential scholarship, I guess there is a wide range of money given out for those.

I also got invited to join the college park scholars program. I did not apply to one of the more popular ones (applied to science, discovery and the universe). I'm not accepted to the program that I applied to yet, but do you think i'm a shoe-in b/c of the scholarship money they offered me? I haven't heard of anyone receiving this much money from maryland college park...

My son also received the $8000 per year President's Scholarship. We are VERY pleased, and because of the scholarship, he has decided to attend the University of Maryland! :D

Stats 1410 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA, top 11% of a small high school class. Will be in Honors Humanities and Journalism.

Does anybody know if getting a scholarship at UMD changes your chances for other scholarships at UMD? I applied for chem eng. and have the Banneker Key scholarship and have yet to receive any scholarship offers from the eng dpt (which I have heard is very generous).

Remember that if you are in-state and are a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist, the $3,000/yr. that comes from that award stacks on top of whatever other scholarships you get (including Banneker-Key), up to COA. Sweet deal!

My DD received a letter today for $8,000/year Presidential Scholarship, and we are OOS. We were hoping for a Benneker/Key full ride, but now, I guess, she is most likely headed for an Ivy League school (has been accepted to Cornell, and waiting for others). BTW, she has 2280 SAT and 35 ACT.
