Merit Scholarship

$8,000/year Presidential Scholarship OOS... unfortunately this doesn't put Maryland in the "affordable" range unless there is additional, generous need-based aid. I, too, was really hoping for Banneker/Key... didn't work out.

Stats:
1570/2370 SAT I, 800 and 790 SAT IIs
3.98 uw GPA with all honors/AP classes (top 1-2%- school doesn't rank)
Some awards, several time-consuming EC's

B/K interview invitations have gone out, but the letters telling folks what their B/K package actually is don't go out for another couple of weeks. They just finished interviewing last Friday.

buffalowizard, I am surprised that you didn't get the invitation for Banneker/Key with those stats. Wait for the financial package and make a decision. For us, we are not eligible for need-based financial award, and we might as well pay a little bit more and send my DD to an Ivy League school. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks, CountingDown. We knew that my DD wasn't invited, and knew already that she wasn't going to Maryland unless there are significant scholarship offers. Congratulations to those who have received scholarship offers, and good luck with your decisions. Maryland is a great school.

Did the people who received these scholarship e-mails people who applied for financial aid?

The scholarship offer was by a snail mail.

mdcissp-
My son didn't receive the email, just the scholarship letter (snail mail). We applied for financial aid but have an EFC higher than the cost-of-attendance. It's not a need-based award.

mdcissp, same with my D. We also applied for financial aid, but we have an EFC higher than COA. It is purely a merit-based scholarship as oregonianmom said.

the financial aid is up online. I got $8000/year presidential scholarship but the aid itself was bad; definitely still doesn't put Maryland into an affordable range. I'm from OOS between.
