anyone know...?

Why would it go down?

because I know that if the college already has you locked in (accepted you from ED) then wouldn't give you as much aid as they would have if you didn't ED them

so I was wondering if they cut down merit scholarships as well

You might not even get a merit scholarship if you apply ED, because they already have you locked in, so they don't need to further persuade you to come to their school by giving you a merit scholarship. That is why if a person knows that they cannot afford a college without lots of financial aid or a merit scholarship, then they shouldn't apply to that particular school ED round. Atleast that is what I've been told...I'm not sure how financial aid is affected by this, though.

Oh so they don't even have to give you merit scholarships?

I kinda thought they had to .. woops

Only if you are national merit semifinalist??? (or maybe it's national merit finalist) and you designate it as your first choice school, but it has to be a school that actually does offer scholarships to for the national merit finalist??/national merit semi-finalists.
