Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you knew when merit scholarships will be sent out, or have received them. I know kids were talking about this on another post.

At most I expect to get 2k, if any. I am out of state with a 1300, top 5 percent of my class of 500 students, good recs, essay, ecs, and an invitation to the scholars program. It also seems that Maryland takes SATs into account the most when awarding scholarships

My sister currently goes to UMD. She went undergraduate for speech pathology and is currently enrolled in her first year of graduate school there. She has a 1340 and top 5 percent five years ago, when the school was low second tier, and was only award 2k. I guess they must not award much to out-of-staters, but the tuition has gone incredibly high.

My sister loved the school. It is a great school for an outgoing student who wants diversity and livelihood on campus and does not mind big classes. Although she has never told me that much about the school, we are not very close, the courses at the school seem to be manageable and the professors are pretty good. Though, there are still many large classes and professors that are hard to get ahold of and get to know. She finished with a 3.67 GPA, just missing the lowest cum laude

Since she has been there the school has really become competitive and better regarded in the academic community, stripping its party school image. The school has many programs ranked in the top 25 of graduate and undergraduate programs
Business
Education
Speech Pathology
and others

I applied to the business school because of its reputation

though, while its a bargain for in-staters, it is about 26k out of state

hope this info can be helpful in deciding if umd is right for you
