Merit Scholarships at JHU?

Hello-

My son applied to JHU because of the school itself AND it's awesome location (he loves Baltimore). He is SOOOOOO excited. However, as decisions draw nearer and nearer, he has become extremely concerned with his chances of getting in AND his aid package. There's nothing we can do but sit and wait for JHU's letter to arrive in terms of his acceptance/rejection/WL, but I'm not so sure about the FA.

We don't qualify for FA...our EFC's too high and other colleges into which he's been accepted haven't given him anything. AND SO, merit aid is really our only hope.

After looking on JHU's FA website, we don't see a lot of merit aid. However, some colleges offer things like the President's Scholarship, or the Trustee's Scholarship, etc., which are NOT posted on their website.

Can anyone give me some insight as to whether or not JHU offers sizable merit scholarships to its applicants? If you're an ED applicant, and you received a scholarship, would you mind sharing the amount and title? Thanks to anyone who posts!

"The Hodson Trust Scholarship (Top)

Awarded on the basis of academic and personal achievement, leadership, and contribution, these scholarships, worth up to $24,000 per annum, are awarded to fewer than 20 freshmen yearly through the Hodson Trust. The scholarships are automatically renewed each year, provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 grade point average.

All Freshman applicants for admission will be considered for the Hodson Trust Scholarship. A separate application is not required. Notification of selection will be made at the time of admission.

Charles R. Westgate Scholarship in Engineering (Top)

These merit-based scholarships provide full tuition per year and a stipend toward living expenses for four years of undergraduate study in engineering. Students in any engineering major may be considered for the scholarships. Up to two scholarships are available for entering students each year."

A lot of money but very hard to get…

Yep… a lot of money. And so hard to get that we just assume merit aid doesn’t exist. :)

Yeah… I’d love to go to Hopkins, but the price tag is a bit of a downer…

Wow, I’m really hoping to get one of those… and getting in would be good…

If you are interested in aid, you can trythe whole calling Hopkins thing and saying “School X gave me $10,000/year, and I’m tempted to go there…” and see what Hopkins will do. Can’t hurt to try.

FYI, ED applicants don’t get scholarship offers until when RD decisions are mailed out (later this week, I think?)
