I did not see the deadline for Kenyon's merit scholarships until after the deadline (December 15) had passed. When my son visited one of the deans was talking with us and said to make sure my son "applied" for the merit scholarships. At the time, it was assumed he would be applying ED1 which was probably why she never mentioned the December 15 deadline. Now he is appying RD and I am concerned that the amount of fa he needs might hurt his chances of admission (he won't need full fa, but more than 50%). However, I did read somewhere in Kenyon's literature that in order to be considered for a merit scholarship students are "encouraged, but not required" to apply by Dec 15. Does this mean that some scholarships are held back for the applicants who missed the deadline? And how does it work, anyway? Do they stamp the date the app is received and only consider the ones received before the 15th for scholarships? As they are merit scholarships, what if there are more qualified applicants who applied later? Ugh....stressing a bit. My son's school uses Naviance and this info is not listed under the deadlines on the Naviance page.

My understanding is that if you applied by the Dec. 15 deadline, your application would automatically be considered for merit scholarships. If you did not apply by that date, it’s a matter of the individual readers of your application to flag it (assumably because of high grades and scores, etc) for such consideration.

I contacted the admissions office about it and they said that they still consider all applications post the December 15th deadline for scholarships. I think (as minoafrau stated) you have to be flagged in order to be considered however.

Does anyone know if merit scholarship info comes with the admissions decisions or afterwards? Also, anyone know when decisions will be mailed this year?

I just received my decision but I have yet to see the actual package (my mom texted me and told me). I’ll check later about scholarship decisions because I’m interested about that as well.

toujours-- Did you apply early decision?

no I applied regular action, so it isn’t binding.

What is the largest amount of merit money that Kenyon offers per year?

They say for merit it is 1/2 tuition. My d just got her package and she received $12,000 per year merit, which should go a long way toward…; well let’s just say it could have been a lot more and still not have been enough

Quill, my sentiments exactly. DD got same merit aid, I told my wife, wish it were 20k

The highest merit award offered by Kenyon is the Trustee Opportunity Scholarship at $20k/year. I got mine with my decision in the post yesterday.

Does anyone know anything about a “Science Award?” I just received a revised financial aid package (unsolicited) with this newly included. It’s $20k/year. It’s a merit scholarship, right?

skyrunner, congratulations on the award! If I were you, I would direct all substantive questions to Kenyon.
