Merit scholarships at Rice

Hi, does anyone know how I can apply for merit scholarships at Rice? I've heard of Century scholars, and that's about it.

Thanks,
Joseph

You are automatically considered when you submit your regular application. There is no separate application to submit for scholarship consideration.

Thanks blackeyedsusan!

Would you happen to know anything I can do to increase my chances of getting said scholarships? Thanks again.

Here's a list, you can see if there is anything that you can do to improve your standing. I know there are others since there are separate music ones. May have other Department ones as well.

If you are super super sure that you want to do engineering, put "engineering" on your application...lol I know some kids who are like "damnit I KNOW I could have gotten an engineering scholarship."

I have no idea what they look for. I said I wanted to come to Rice because I like breakfast tacos too much to leave Texas and they gave me money. *, admissions office, *.

Rice dedicates an impressive portion of its endowment to financial aid -- and that leads the way to generous merit aid opps. Leadership is one factor that matters -- but I'm sure there other considerations, too.

Rice's generous merit offer was one of the reasons my son turned down some other fine schools, last spring. And he sure is glad he did -- he's
very happy with his classes and classmates.

how much money did he get?

$20K per year -- and compare Rice's tuition to that of its peers.
Not to mention all that it has to offer --

The $20k is President's, right? Think my best friend from HS also got that one...he's pretty damn competitive. I think the Trustee scholarships ($15?k) are a little more common. No clue about the frequency of engineering, and I think there are 36 century scholars this year.

Dunno if that's helpful at all but yeah.

are the scholarships added to the financial aide you get? like besides the 20k or 15k scholarship do they provide any additional financial aide or what?

Our 20K was a Trustee Distinguished Award -- some people qualify for additional
financial aid -- we didn't. For more financial aid info --

Uh once I got my scholarships I didn't even apply for financial aid lol...paying $1,270 this semester. Yes I'm pretty sure they add on though (can't think of a reason why they wouldn't).
