Merit scholarships at UMTC

My daughter has been accepted to the University of Minnesota in CFANS and her heart is set on UMTC. I know they say the deadline to hear about merit scholarships is at the end of March, but is it similar to their admissions; could there be rolling scholarship notifications from now through the end of March?

Her stats: 1480 SAT, 32 ACT, 4.0 un-weighted GPA, 4.7 weighted, multiple AP courses, top 3% in class. OOS student. I’m really hoping for in-state tuition cost…

Thank you!

We are waiting as well, with very similar stats for my daughter. She is in the College of Design. I think they have changed their merit aid to use Gold and National (or Presidential) levels, and no longer offer the in-state cost difference. My daughter’s admissions officer emailed a response saying they will be rolled out from now through the end of March, so fingers crossed!! Good luck!

Thank you!! Good luck-definitely have my fingers crossed :slight_smile:

My daughter’s financial aid award appeared on myu.umn.edu today and all she received were loans and work study. CBS admit, 32 ACT, 11 APs, 4.52w and 3.95uw. She’ll go elsewhere. Maybe your award has appeared as well.

@Hiastan @mwmomtwins
My son just logged into his MyU portal and dug down about three layers to find an “award summary” that lists a National Scholarship of $10K/year. Nothing in the “communication center” that indicates a letter is pending, no email…but it was not there yesterday. (Of course, they also list the federal unsub dir loan and a gigantic parent plus loan that we will not take.) So…I hope that means it’s official?!

For those of you who are still waiting, he’d given up hope. His stats: OOS, 35 ACT, 14 APs, 3.91uw/4.27w, top 3% in class of 625. From looking at the website, it looks like a $10K National Scholarship is the most he could get as an OOS student. Our state does not have reciprocity with Minnesota. He’s a comp sci major in the College of Engineering. No word on Honors. He applied Nov 1 and was accepted two weeks later.

So you can still have hope!

Hard to find. Go to myu.umn.edu not the app tracker
Top menu : key links / student center
Left side menu: financial aid / view financial aid

@BoroDad Thank you! Thank you! very helpful myu instruction. Was waiting forever on the letter for honor and merit. App tracker showed D been accepted in honor program 3 weeks ago, but haven’t received anything in mail.

OOS, 10k national and 5k Gold.

Was hoping 10k Gold and maybe another 5k presidential like a lot of OOS high stat kids got in the previous years. Well, not sound ungrateful, but with tuition increase in the next few years, 15k will only cover half tuition at most. Will be a hard decision for committing.

Scholarship recipients are notified by regular mail. Nothing will appear as an e-mail or Tracker notice. So if merit is showing up in the FA section or elsewhere, that’s great news and you should expect a regular mail package soon. Congrats!

Honors will show up in the Tracker and then also by regular mail. For CSE the number of scholarship recipients typically exceeds the number of honors invitees, simply because honors is top 10% of the college, while the merit tends to be doled out to the highest stats on a university-wide basis (although there is some college-specific merit as well).

Have you guys signed up for USPS Informed Delivery? That’s a great way to get a “heads up” on your mail. Not sure it’ll scan the scholarship packets but it will definitely scan any letters (such as an invitation to Honors).

Good luck!

Thank you. Just reviewed award summary on MyU. Offered the National Scholarship of $10,000.

@JBStillFlying
Would college specific merit be doled out at the same time as the university wide scholarships?

Four years ago, my D received the initial scholarship offer quite early and it was for NMF. Then they add another scholarship to it and made it around $20k per year. I remember the final cost was less than $10k per year and we are OOS.

Wow, that’s amazing! Was the extra scholarship for a specific college then?

@Hiastan:

at #9: not sure - in the past it seemed that university-wide was the first to be doled out, but this year those are being distributed more slowly than usual so not sure what’s going on.

at #10: @billcsho’s D likely got the $10,000 Gold for NMF and then the National which, at the time, covered 100% of the tuition differential for OOS. Important to note that neither scholarship is as generous for OOS now, based on what others have been reporting.

I heard honor program will get $2000 per year but when my son checked his Myu, only other scholarship was showed up.
Is anybody got into honor program got a honor scholarship?

I just checked my daughter’s account. She’s in state and got the $3000/year Iron Range 4 Year Scholarship. Her FAFSA info also came through. I hope there are more scholarships being awarded, but I’m not holding my breath.

Her stats: 32 ACT, but she’s been a full-time student for the past two years through the U’s PSEO program, and she’s made the Dean’s List at the U every semester. I don’t remember her GPA, but she doesn’t have a grade lower than an A-, and last semester her University GPA was 4.0. All her generals are done. She was admitted to CSE for fall.

@BoroDad thank you so much for the tip! Have been waiting months. Finally saw S18 got 5k Gold scholarship. Reciprocity kid, NMF. admitted CSE.

@Borodad thank you for sharing that info. Just used it to see that my OOS S18 received $15k in scholarships. He’s admitted to CSE with a 35 ACT, 1570 SAT, NMF and 3.95 UW/4.51 W GPA. We were puzzled by the lack of scholarships until we logged into the site using your info and saw his award. Now just to wait on his other schools…

Just a question as my S18 also has an Air Force ROTC scholarship…can the National and Gold merit scholarships be used for room and board and fees? I was thinking no but couldn’t find anything on the UMTC website.

Gold and National should stack so will just come off the total bill - you’ll be charged an amount for tuition, fees, room and board that is net of those awards. Not sure how ROTC scholarships work - are they full or partial? 100% merit or include a need-based component? It’s possible that ROTC amounts may vary depending on other awards (ie not stack) so that may be something to ask about.

Our S received national scholarship and gold scholar award each 5K. We are OOS
