Merit Scholarships & ED

I remember reading/hearing somewhere that it is more difficult to get a merit scholarship to Vandy if you apply early decision as opposed to applying regular decision. Is this true or do you have equal chance either way?

I don’t think anyone knows the answer to this question. I believe the staff tells prospectives that all applicants will get consideration.
If you have a lower EFC and you can take advantage of Vanderbilt’s excellent no loan need package, you might feel AOK with your fate in the ED round. Those families who are full pay or closer to full pay, might advise you to go to the spring season so that you can also consider your best options in public colleges and other private colleges.
I think there are more families who are ready to accept their outcomes in the ED round whether it is paying their EFC estimate or paying full price. best of luck

This question came up during our Information Session at Vandy. Their official answer was that everyone is considered equally for merit scholarships regardless of whether they apply ED1, ED2 or RD.

Since this is the real world, and the one of the objectives of merit scholarships is to improve yield among top applicants, I would guess that some advantage exists for RD. During the IS, the adcom stated that most CV scholars are Ivy-quality applicants. Ideally, the CV will pull students to Vandy away from HYP. I would assume that this type of applicant would not typically use their ED bullet for Vandy.
