It’s priority consideration so you can still get in but it will be more difficult for you.

raiderade how’d you find out about honors already. I have a friend who said her letter said honors decisions will be mailed later, she also called the admissions office and they said they don’t have those decisions until mid march. is there some other way you found out cause she’s dying to know if she got in.

udel is sending acceptance letters already? i thought they dont send them until mid-march…?

I am instate. It said in some letters that they were waiting to consider some people for honors until mid-march. Sort of like being deferred from honors.

oh ok. but theyre already starting to send out decisions? thats awesome

@raiderade: Thanks for clearing that up-I appreciate it That’s how I first understood it, but I guess I just got a little anxious after reading the same sentence about priority consideration over and over…lool worried myself over nothing.

^No problem. Don’t worry!

@roryThey only send out decisions this early to instate residents.

I’m pretty sure the deadline was 12/1. From their website under deadlines for 12/1: “Submit the Common Application and UD Supplement to receive priority consideration for merit scholarships and/or admission to the Honors Program”.

You can always apply after your freshman year, but I think a big part of the Honors program is living with other Honors kids in the dorm. Of course, the honors degree is also important.

^I’m not sure I know what you’re saying.

What don’t you understand? You can apply to get into the honors program after your Freshman year, if you have the grades. But there are two components to the Honors program (which I am guessing you are not familiar with). First, the Honors-only dorm for Freshman year (and grouped living in subsequent years but not the way it is in Freshman) and Honors programs. Second, there’s the Honors degree that you get for taking some number of Honors classes and doing some other academic work (a thesis, I think, but not positive).

The deadline for being in the Honors program for your freshman year was 12/1.

^Your condescension is unbelievable.

You do not understand what the poster was asking. He/she was wondering if he/she could be considered for admissions to the honors college even though the app was submitted after the december 1st deadline.

It is still possible to get into the honors college after the december priority deadline.

I understand what they were asking (talk about condescension, you’re not smarter than me or anyone else here), and the way I read the December 1 deadline wording on their website, it seemed that it was the deadline for applying to the honors program. If the poster is so interested in knowing, they should contact UD and ask them.

And it’s a program, not a college.

Bm, no worries. I suspect UD will come through for your friend. My D has similar stats & background like your friend. Same 2250 SAT etc. but OOS.

UD was extremely generous with my D who did enter into Honors. $15k merit and like Zoosermom’s D, another $5k in UD need based grants (that we DID need). In the end, it made all the difference in the world for her to attend UD. State flagship did come through but costs were roughly the same. She chose UD for a variety of reasons and they made it possible.

Thank you everyone for posting information regarding UD scholarships. I guess we all have to wait till march or april. Perhaps a lucky few (up to 100 top candidates?) will be be invited for a scholarship day.

It appears that the invitation letters for the top 100 candidates for a scholarship day on March 18 have been sent out.

bm2011- did you receive or do you know someone who received a letter? if so congrats!!!

Regarding the invitations to scholarship day that have been sent out, according to bm2011, does that apply to both in state and out of state students? If out of state students have not been notified of admission as of yet, it would seem strange to have sent them an invite.

Also, does UD offer scholarships to non-honors students? Are there any non-academic, perhaps portfolio based or performance based scholarships out there?

a girl in my school told me today that she received acceptance into delaware & their honors program in the mail on saturday. i couldnt believe it since they release decisions in mid-march. but i guess she’s one of their brightest applicants? ahh i hope i still have a chance for their honors program!!!

Someone who did not apply for the honors program just posted that he’d gotten an email about being considered for merit scholarships.

bm2011, how did you find out that all 100 of the scholarship day invitation letters have been sent (those would have to include some OOS kids).

I’m kind of surprised I haven’t gotten anything about scholarships. I’m a double legacy with a 3.95, 9 APs, and a 2190 SAT and instate.
