merit scholarships for me?

I'm a junior looking for scholarships. I expect to have a pretty high EFC, but my situation is such that my parents likely won't meet it. I'm looking for colleges that I might be competitive for 15k+ yearly merit scholarshps. I looked through the list of merit scholarship threads and came up with a few schools (Tulane, for one), but it was sort of massive and all over the place.

94% unweighted gpa
2160 SAT
strong essays (I know everyone says this...)
pretty good recs
average ECs--pretty big internship, leadership position in a club, couple other small things.

I don't want to be in a rural area, would prefer to avoid freezing weather, and plan to major in english or in the humanities.

I've got an open mind and will look into any suggestions, thanks a bunch

If by chance you are interested in Psychology, Political Science (and several others I don't recall) you should take a look at Clark in Worcester. I know it violates the weather part if your list, but you would have a more than decent shot at the Presidential Scholarship if you go visit and have an interview. All-in Clark is about $40k and I believe the scholarship is $15k per year plus a research stipend.

one starting point is to determine which colleges have 25%-75% SAT score ranges where your SAT score puts you above (or even better, way above), the 75% mark.

Iron Maiden,

Thanks, I've looked a bit at Clark since it is nearby. I haven't visited, but I'll check out the presidential scholarship and visit if it sounds like it might work for me.

Chubeebo,

Yeah I've been trying to do that, but it is sort of grueling going to collegeboard, looking through schools and their scores, and then going to their websites to see if they have merit aid that I might qualify for, knowing that I am searching pretty randomly and there might be some schools out there that have ideal scholarships that I just won't happen upon. So I'm looking for schools that have in your experience, or that you've heard of, that are pretty generous for students like me.

Harvey33, try fastweb.com. It's a scholarship search website and it allows you to search for colleges by state/region (which lists schools you may not have heard about). Additionally, it offers a snapshot view of the school's stats and there are hyperlinks to financial aid and admissions.

Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland is known for it's merit aid. The school would proably be safety for you. But, right off the bat they give NHS members a $10,000 scholarship x 4 years. They also have other aid that is based on SAT, etc.

Oh, it's pretty rural, though.

momfromtexas did a lot of research on merit scholarships and found full-rides for both of her children. Details are at the following threads:
