merit scholarships in film production (LA)

Loyola Marymount and USC are tied as my top schools right now (I’m looking to major in film and television production), and I was wondering if anyone knows what the merit scholarship possibilities are? I will be applying from out of state, and I’m not sure if I’ll get much need-based aid because my parents both have good jobs. I’ve heard that LMU is pretty stingy when it comes to financial aid… does anyone know a place I can find trustworthy statistics on both LMU and USC?

These schools both have net price calculators on their sites. Some NPCs include merit aid.

What are your stats? SAT or ACT scores…and GPA?

USC gives some merit aid to very high stats students, and to National Merit finalists. Are you one?

These are both (expensive) private universities. It doesn’t matter what state you are coming from. Your costs will be the same (except maybe transportation…depending on where you are from).

What can your parents pay annually for your college costs?

I have a 32 on the act and a 3.93 gpa! I don’t know how much my parents are going to contribute, they keep telling me not to worry about paying but I can’t stop thinking about it!

OP, have you thought about Chapman? It has always given my students great merit scholarships ranging from $15K to $30k depending on stats. The Dodge Film School is excellent. Just be sure to apply early action.

You’re right to worry. We’ve seen too many kids post in the spring who were told the same from their parents…only to later find out that their parents intended on cosigning loans or thought that they’d get better aid.

Ask your parents if they’re prepared to pay $60k per year.

Ask them.

itsv,

I found out about Chapman RIGHT before the deadline. I’m thinking about going to the university of Central Arkansas (I live in AR so instate tuition yay + they actually have a decent film program) and then transferring to Chapman. It sounds like a good fit for me and I’m sad I found out too late!

You found out about the deadline for Chapman for WHAT?

The EA application deadline is November 1…unless I’m reading this wrong.

https://www.chapman.edu/admission/undergraduate/applynow.aspx

It is November 1 but it will take a week for my transcript to get there and my recommenders won’t be done with my recommendations in time

January 15 regular deadline … November 1 was early action

Then do the app now and send other stuff asap, it’s worth a try.

If they give merit, chances are they only give it to freshman right from high school, not transfer students.

But definitely apply to your instate school with a good program, so you have at least one affordable option.

You could also apply to Temple and see how much merit they give.

How about U New Mexico? They give good merit.

Mom2E, I’m trying to go for Film Production and I don’t think they have a deadline after Nov 1

@maybefilmmajor

Submit your application to Chapman NOW. Get your supporting documents in ASAP. Just do it.

Nothing ventured…nothing gained.
